Jack White and Stephen Colbert Release Single

Jack White has apparently been trying to fill his idle time lately, especially since disbanding The White Stripes. For better or for worse, White teamed up with news funny man, Stephen Colbert to record and release a 7″ single. Called “Charlene II (I’m Over You)”, with backing band the Black Belles, it features the b-side “Charlene (I’m Right Behind You).” You can buy the single at itunes or Third Man Records, which White owns. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. Listen below.

Third Man Records Hits The Road

Almost lost in the SXSW shuffle was an appearance by Jack White and his newest project.

No, not a new band but a mobile record store! The Third Man Rolling Record Store debuted on last Saturday, with an appearance by Jack and his newest record label signee, Seasick Steve.

White humored the amassed crowd with a brief, two-song performance (Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” and the White Stripe’s  “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground”) before giving the impromptu stage up for Seasick Steve.

After the brief concert, fans got to tour the Rolling Record Store, with its reinforced vinyl racks and the interior and exterior sound systems. Coated in Third Man Records trademark yellow and black, the truck looks both brand new and retro.

Jack sat down to an interview with Pitchfork which you can see right here. Below check out both White and Seasick Steve’s solo performances.

Two More Artists Join Third Man Records’ Blue Series

As if Jack White didn’t have enough projects with running a recording studio, juggling three bands and a family, he’s gone and taken two more bands under his production wing.

Folk-pop duo First Aid Kit and psych-rockers Dungen will both take part in Third Man Records’ Blue Series of singles releases. The singles are produced by Jack White and recorded at his Third Man Studios in Nashville. The series has featured releases from Wanda Jackson and Secret Sisters among others.

Dungen created two tracks for the series, “Oga Nasa Mum” (translates to “Eyes Nose Mouth”) and “Highway Wolf.” First Aid Kit decided to do a couple of covers, featuring Buffy Sainte-Marie’s “Universal Soldier” and the classic blues song “It Hurts Me Too.”

Both artists’ series will be available in January, the 11th for Dungen and the 18th for First Aid Kit on Third Man Records.

Pujol Premiere Jack White Produced Single

Pujol, the brainchild of frontman Daniel Pujol, has been rocking Nashville so hard, Jack White finally heard. Pujol “recalls Paul Westerberg on those early, bratty Replacements records.” Prefix Mag. One of Spin Magazines five Nashville bands you need to know, Pujol’s 7″ “Black Rabbit” is out now on Third Man Records. There is also a limited edition 7″ coming later this month (“No Feeling”) on Turbo Time Record. Check out “Too Safe” produced by Jack White, then catch them on the road.
