Songstress Carolyn Shulman is back at it again today as she debuts her new single and video for “Matter of Time.” The gorgeous video is perfection from start to finish as it shows the true essence of Carolyn and her music.

Carolyn shares of the piece:

“Matter of Time is a song about being in a bit of a rut, stuck in the daily grind, and finding your way out of that by trying a new adventure and “getting lost” or “taking a wrong turn.” It’s about realizing that once in awhile, especially in long-term relationships, we need to take risks and find ways to add some spark and newness to keep things feeling fresh and fun.”

Carolyn Shulman is a Denver-based folk singer-songwriter whose connection with music has been a lifelong affair. She came by her love of music and all things guitar-related naturally. Her father has played guitar as a hobby for most of his life, so when Carolyn expressed an interest in learning to play, he brought home a kid-sized acoustic guitar perfect for a nine year-old’s hands and set her up with lessons. By the time she was fourteen, she was writing songs and playing in coffee shops and restaurants in her hometown of Mobile, Alabama.

Carolyn’s upcoming album comes in the form of Grenadine & Kerosen, at Cinder Sound Studio in Longmont, Colorado. The record is slated for a May release. For the record she worked with veteran producer and award-winning singer-songwriter John McVey. Shulman and McVey brought in a band of seasoned musicians including Michael O’Connor, Eric Moon, Christian Teele, Chris Engleman and Kramer Kelling. Glenn Taylor of Bonnie & the Clydes plays pedal steel on two tracks, and fellow Colorado-based singer-songwriter friends Edie Carey, Megan Burtt, and Jen Hitt lent their support as background vocalists.

Toronto-based singer/pianist/songwriter Emma Hewson has made herself known as a versatile session musician, teacher, and original artist. Emma’s background in music developed from a foundation of 12 years of classical piano, before pursuing a music degree at Toronto’s York University where she experimented with jazz and free improvisation. Outside of formal education, Emma also honed her unique style of original music, playing intricate, jazzy piano grooves while singing with a heavy R&B influence. New single, “Mismatched,” was written when Emma was coming to terms with the fact that she would eventually have to leave the relationship she was in at the time. While writing, Emma melded a lot of the experiences of her past relationships together, thinking of the specifically dramatic and mismatched, if you will, moments in previous relationships. 

Montreal artist Kristian North is a songwriter whose poetic wordplay and deep crooner voice lay the foundation for candid songs that take inspiration from hi-fi soft rock, arty disco, and smart new wave. As the music struts down analogue lane, quaint confessions, cloaked desires and mythical references, make up complex, yet heartfelt lyrics, just cryptic enough to engage insert and booklet enthusiasts.After arduous years of touring as he fronted garage punk band Babysitter, Kristian North entered a period of reinvention to perfect his craft. This resulted in The Last Rock N Roll Record, his debut album. He’s now readying the release of his sophomore full-length, Passion Play.Passion Play’s newest single, “Shadow Of The Pyramids” is an apocalyptic and nostalgic psych track that stays true to Kristian’s overall alt-pop sound.

Chloé’s sound intentionally combines real and synthetic instruments with nods to the past and present, lending her to being a timeless breath of fresh air for the future of pop music. 

Inspired by Chloé’s own period of self discovery and surrender, new single, “Ready,” is a message about taking the leap in facing your fears, trust falling into the unknown regardless of the outcome and realizing you are already free if you choose to be, nothing but you is holding you back. It also highlights the process of getting to know yourself and realizing that you are already complete and have all you need inside of you. When we find peace within ourselves, we can face anything fearlessly and open ourselves up to limitless possibilities – a very liberating message as we head back into a post-COVID world.
