WIN AN OFFICIAL TAPE FROM THE SOMEONE STILL LOVES YOU BORIS YELTSIN “TAPE CLUB”

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin is obviously the #1 band around here at Modern Mystery (Hey we named the site after them, right?), and we have an AMAZING contest for you to enter, that hell, we’re dying to get a piece of ourselves.

Feast your eyes upon the exclusive, original, Tape Club tape from the month April (2006), that Polyvinyl was nice enough to hook us up with. Not only will you win the rare tape from the old club, but also a copy of Tape Club, their new album of demos and unreleased songs due out October 18th on Polyvinyl. Your choice of Black Vinyl or CD. A 26-song double album that spans 10 years of SSLYBY greatness.

The title is a direct reference to the subscription service SSLYBY started in late 2005 to raise money for tour while copies of their debut Broom (which they had just self-released) were quickly selling out. In exchange for signing up, fans were treated to cassette home recordings of unreleased songs packaged in handmade covers.

To Enter, please E-mail us at MODERNMYSTERYBLOG@YAHOO.COM by Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 at Midnight with your Name and Address. You must live in the U.S. to enter.

You can listen to Tape Club in it’s entirety at http://sslyby.bandcamp.com

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Announces Tour and Premieres “Sink / Let It Sway” Video

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yelsin kicked off their spring tour on Monday, April 25 in Columbia, MO at Mojo’s and will be wrapping it up May 3 at the Rock Shop in Brooklyn, NY. The tour will be featuring support from Minnesota band Koo Koo Kangaroo. The band also released their “Sink/Let It Sway” video featuring the band in various rubber masks (one Conan O’Brien, one Hilary Clinton). The video shows the band running constantly creating chaos whenever they can and eventually settling down at a raging party where Hilary wales on the drums and Conan does some crazy guitar moves. The song rocks, but the video should not be watched drunk. It will make you nauseous. Just a tip. Anyway, featured below are the tour dates for SSLYBY:

Apr. 25 – Columbia, MO – Mojo’s

Apr. 26 – Chicago, IL – Lincoln Hall

Apr.28 – Champaign, IL – Courtyard Cafe

Apr. 29 – Pittsburgh, PA – Brillobox

Apr.30 – Philadelphia, PA – Blockley Pourhouse

May 01 – Washington DC – Rock and Roll Hotel

May 02 – South Orange, NJ – Seton Hall University

May 03 – Brooklyn, NY – The Rock Shop

Aerosmith Take on Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin

In an interesting change of event, Aerosmith has taken on Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin….kind of. The SSLYBY has just released a fan made video for the song “Back in the Saddle,” featuring clips of classic rock Godfathers Aerosmith. Get ready to laugh because it will have you rolling out of your chair! We can’t even imagine how much work and effort went into finding the perfect clips for this video.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Breaks Down “Let It Sway”

Some indie bands have really strong, almost obsessive fan bases, and the boys of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin are on the top of the list. Recently, Meghan Baier who runs the band’s most notable website called I Am Warm and Powerful, conducted an interview with Phil Dickey and Will Knauer from the band, in which they answered fan submitted questions about Let It Sway (Polyvinyl). Touching on all topics imaginable in regards to the new record, the guys open up in their charming SSLYBY way as always. The band has just released their new, critically acclaimed album a couple of weeks ago, and it’s been a hit with the fans as well.

Head over to the site to read The Let It Sway Breakdown Interview, and be sure to check out the tour dates a few posts below.
