Cloud Nothings + Kevin Greenspon Split

Having released the original two versions of 19 year old Cleveland musician Dylan Baldi, aka Cloud Nothings’ first album Turning On on his label Bridgetown Records last year, Kevin Greenspon has now created a split with the budding artist.

The split begins with five songs by Greenspon, featuring Travis von Sydow/Ancient Crux on drums and includes a cover of “No Paws”. Cloud Nothings then ends the track list with five tracks that are not on the re-issue of the Carpark/Witchita re-issue of Turning On.

Only 250 of these limited edition splits are currently being released, including full color inserts and a lyrics sheet.

The Elves of Heaven Perform at Seaport Tree Lighting

Normally, cheesy Christmas events are accompanied by equally cheesy Christmas music, but this is certainly not the case at this year’s Seaport tree lighting ceremony. It seems South Street Seaport’s resident musician Martin Clancy has re-formed his band The Elves of Heaven to perform at the ceremony; you may recognize him from the set he played last month at the Witness Protection Programme where he shared the stage with Black Lips, Sea Wolf, Casiokids and others.

Taking place November 26th at 6 pm, the band will be accompanied by a 40-piece choir and soul singer Darlene Love. The band will be performing songs from their EP, This Christmas, which is was released this week.

Delta Spirit: Helping You Cope With Loss Since 2010

Their sound may be rock, soul and a little bit of Americana, but all the five piece San Diego outfit Delta Spirit is making listeners hear in their latest EP, The Waits Room, is melancholy sadness.

How could we not feel this way, when on the album the “short list” of the things we lose include “our youth, our safety, our comfort, our innocence…” and this goes on and on. But Delta Spirit’s music thrives on this tone, as critics and fans have agreed.

The band’s new tour begins next week to promote the release of the EP, dropping  TODAY, and their last LP, History From Below, which is out now on Rounder Records.

BRAIDS Make Lemonade

It takes a lot for four best friends from Alberta, Canada to convince each other to skip college and move across the country to Montreal. At only eighteen, the music geniuses BRAIDS  released a  self recorded/self produced album known as Native Speaker.

With its single “Lemonade” now debuted on Stereogum, new fans can’t wait for the LP’s release on January 18th. The critics can’t wait either, as Filter magazine described the album as “an amalgam of feminine assertion and unabashed lust.”

Illustrated as brilliant in detail and  luminous structure, none of the songs on Native Speaker ever come in under four minutes and most average about six. Such pattern has not bored listeners, but only seemed to sugarcoat the already radiant sound. Leading up to the release, the band will be playing the following shows. Catch them in your city!
