Video Voyeur: 3Qs with MGSP

Screenshot 2019-03-22 at 2.03.30 PM

MGSP is a pure synergy of modern electronic music and rock&roll roots consisting of childhood best friends, Gregg Sgar and Matt Pelosi. The duo who are a product of experimentation, are already on their way of playing an essential role in the evolution of music for generations to come. MGSP fearlessly pushes boundaries by blending sounds of rock, pop, EDM, r&b, industrial, and hip hop while paying respect to who came before them. Sharing their new video “Signs,” we dig a little deeper to the group and the process of making their latest masterpiece, below.

Tell us the story of this song, why did you choose to visualize this song specifically?

Signs is about struggling with depression and the day to day routine. Having to face this disease ourselves, and seeing it take control of our loved one’s lives caused this song to pour out. It talks about the beauty that we have found in the dark. All of the lessons that stick and some of the greatest wisdom & art have come to us from our
struggles and our loved one’s struggles. All of it, the good and the bad, have a place in our personal lives and journeys. We’d like to showcase Signs to anyone dealing with depression, or trying to stay
mentally and physically balanced.

What was the inspiration behind this video (visuals, storyline, etc.)?

This video tells the story of a young girl who, on the outside, seems like she lives a great life. Having a beautiful penthouse apartment, awesome boyfriend, standard job, you would never expect that she is
balancing the weight of the universe on her shoulders. Mental illness comes in all forms, and it takes no prisoners. Just because it looks like someone is doing great on the outside doesn’t mean they aren’t struggling on the inside. Through personal experience, we wanted to depict a normal day in the life of this young girl and showcase the results of holding in those dark thoughts and emotions when you are alone.

What was the process of making this video?

Having the crew at Magna7 Media is a blessing. Director Devin Lyons and Producer Erdi Demirbulakli fully understood our message/vision and
interpreted it their own way to ultimately create this cinematic adventure. We couldn’t have chosen a better actress for the video either. Liv Perry lived the role of this troubled girl. The team got
together weeks before we shot and storyboarded the video, although
Magna7 did shoot a good portion of it unscripted. We shot the video
sporadically over a month period whenever we could get into a specific
location and/or whenever the weather was right for the scene.

Jon Stancer Goes the Distance on New Single

Jon-Stancer-1.jpg

Jon Stancer is a singer-songwriter and musician who has steadily found his way onto our radar. His songs comprise and embrace a variety of popular styles, having been compared to those by artists as diverse as the Style Council, George Harrison, Belle and Sebastian and Noel Gallagher. His debut album, ‘For The Birds’ was released in June, 2017 and spawned the singles ‘Dance In The Sun’, ‘Take The Bait’ and ‘Now That Summer Is Gone’, which reached the #1 spot on the L.A.-based New Music Weekly Indie chart, and landed in the top 10 on its Hot 100 chart alongside such luminary artists as Taylor Swift, Maroon 5 and Ariana Grande (go figure). In November of 2018, Jon released the single, ‘Not Far From The Truth’, a sharp rebuke of the Trump administration and its plethora of deceptions, and a rallying cry to support the unfairly vilified media. The manic video for the song, featuring “POTUS (and a few other wacky characters)”, is fast approaching 20K YouTube views, and with his new single, ‘Can’t Get It By You’ we find ourselves head over heals for Jon Stancer.t
