Breakout St. Louis garage-pop duo Bruiser Queen release today “Sugar High,” their debut 7” single for Velvet Elk Records.

Fueled by guitarist/singer Morgan Nusbaum’s raucous Riot Grrrl vocals and Jason Potter’s explosive drumming, the track showcases the band’s signature fusion of snarling punk energy and infectious pop sensibilities and previews a deluxe reissue of their acclaimed 2017 album ‘Heavy High,’ which features five previously unreleased bonus tracks and b-sides.

Bruiser Queen will mark the release with their first headline tour through the Midwest and West Coast this fall. See below for full dates, and listen to “Sugar High” here: https://soundcloud.com/velvet-elk- records/01-sugar-high

“We wrote this song about the struggle of being broke and trying to live your dream,” says Nusbaum, “about trying to keep your spirits high while working 3 jobs and playing late night gigs.”

Formed in 2010, Bruiser Queen has earned a slew of accolades and awards in the Midwest and beyond for their mix of 21st Century punk stomp and 60’s girl group shimmy. St. Louis NPR station KDHX raved that the band delivers “the kind of concentrated, uncut rock ‘n’ roll that is perennial in its appeal and absolutely powerful in its immediacy,” while St. Louis Magazine hailed their “primal, garage punk,” and Consequence of Sound praised them as “Karen O-meets-the-Pixies.”

Since the release of their potent 2012 debut album, ‘Swears,’ the duo has taken home both Best Rock Band and Best Garage Band honors in the Riverfront Times’ annual Readers’ Poll, landed festival slots from Savannah Stopover to Loufest, and shared bills with Wanda Jackson, Best Coast, Murder By Death, Those Darlins, and Polyphonic Spree among others. Stay tuned for more information on Bruiser Queen and additional tour dates.

Eli Lev Hits the Ground with “One Road”

Kicking off the weekend in the best way possible, Eli Lev delights with a stunning new song titled “One Road.” Taken from his new record which is due out this month, this is another flowing song in his series of singles that he has been releasing this year. With high anticipation Eli Lev brings together a gorgeous combination of lyricism and music that will hold the test of time. Starting out slow, the track takes us away with harmonious playing and vocal perfection. As the song progresses his sound goes a bit heavier that brings the best of Folk-Rock to life. The song boasts intrepid touches like a detuned mandolin and electronic textures that recall Radiohead more than Bob Dylan. “It’s incredible to harness the power of the many sounds in the world like midi, upright bass, and looping software. The bringing together of electronic and organic sounds makes for endless expressive possibilities,” says Eli. The lyrical content of “One Road” addresses the folk tradition and how it’s evolved and has to continue to evolve to stay resonate.

Matt Oestreicher Has a Remedy with New Single

Screenshot 2018-11-15 at 4.12.42 PM.png

Matt Oestreicher is back with an amazing new single “Soul Doctor” The track is both composed and produced by Matt. “Soul Doctor” really gives the listener a better look into Matt’s soul and artistry through his thoughtful and deep lyrics. Through his words, Matt shows his determination both musically and lyrically.

“Soul Doctor” is a wonderfully produced and thought provoking song. It also feels nostalgic, giving off heavy Don Henley and Eric Clapton vibes. The track ends with a satisfying, classic rock electric guitar solo with keys and powerful vocals to boot.

Overall the song is beautiful. The vocals, harmonies, eclectic beat, chilling electric guitar, powerful acoustic strums, and sweet piano chords all come together to create a song that is both eye opening and easy on the ears. We love this song and we are so excited to see what is to come from Matt Oestreicher!

Video Voyeur: 3Qs with Frantic Romantic

Screenshot 2018-10-12 at 10.26.41 AM

Frantic Romantic quickly become our favorite band this Fall with the release of their new video “Among the Stars.” Themed with ‘Day of the Dead’ elements, the group outdoes themselves not only musically but visually as well. With bursts of color and darkness, Frantic Romantic will have you intrigued within first listen and view. We had the chance to catch up with the group for a very special Video Voyeur, below.

1. Tell us the story of this song, why did you choose to visualize this song specifically?
When we wrote this record, We as a group had suffered some losses. I know specifically the lyrics to this song, are about Michael’s former band mate and friend passing away, but the bigger theme in the song is also coming to terms with the idea that as we move forward in our lives, we are powerless against change, we move for our careers, or relationships, and we lose touch of things from our childhood, friends, places etc. and when we don’t realize that, till those things are gone, and we’re left missing something that use to be.

2. What was the inspiration behind this video (visuals, storyline, etc.)?
I feel like the visuals are fitting, it’s an homage to what is left behind, much like what is celebrated on “Dia de Los Muertos “, where in the Mexican culture, we honor our loved ones we lost. I’ve always had a deep connection to my Mexican roots, being that my parents were Mexican immigrants, and I was fortunate enough to get to know Mexico well as a child. As far as the story line, Chris conceptualized the heist element, to me it feels a little reminiscent of movies like “killing them softly “, but with the make up and lighting to make it memorable.
3. What was the process of making this video?
We had been filming a bunch of videos for this new record, with all that creative energy, we got inspired to take this project on, and really just shotgun the process. We had our cinematographer friend Brian Godoy Palma come and physically shoot and conceptualize the look, and help with set design. We had another friend Ana Palacios, come and assist with the make up design. Then we just focused on capturing the performance, and telling the story. It was a long processor, but because it was something we did with our own hands, it was rewarding when we wrapped.

This big move and academy has clearly brought out her amazing artistry and the evidence is in the music.

Her first single off the EP is called “Cheque, Please” is a jazzy-pop track filled with crisp melodies and sweet sounds. The song gives off amazing vibes all around. Her voice is sultry and smooth, and it is clear how well trained she is lyrically and vocally.

A track we love on this EP is “I’m Your Girl.” The song is beautiful from start to finish. From the piano chords to Niki’s sweet voice, the song is an absolute work of art The ballad is about a past lover and hoping the memories shared are cherished on both end of the relationship.
