Gold Panda Release EP Compilation

Before releasing his acclaimed debut Lucky Shiner, Gold Panda assembled a series of EP’s on Make Mine Records (UK), Avex Records (Japan) and his own Notorious Records.

Now these rare EP’s have been assembled into one package, called Companion. The album came out this week on Ghostly International Records. You can get it wherever records can be found.

What’s more, Gold Panda was recently the subject of a brief documentary by film-maker Shai Levy. In it, the artist opens up about touring and the lonely road. Speaking of touring, Gold Panda has a new North American Tour. You can catch the dates right below the video.

Datarock Releases EP In Advance of Full Album

Javelin Create Some Canyon Candy


Cousins George Langford and Tom Van Buskirk have been recording together under the name Javelin since 2004. But, it wasn’t until 2010, when they toured extensively with Yeasayer, Girl Talk, Matt & Kim, Major Lazer, that things really started to take off for Javelin.

And now, 2011 looks to be an exciting year for the duo, due in large part to the release of their country western songbook Canyon Candy. The album will see release in two unique formats, 10’’ and PlayButton. The former of will see the light of day as a handmade collectors piece on Record Store Day (April 16), with the former following close behind.

Then, in late May, Javelin will launch a headlining tour that will take them across the continental U.S. Peep those dates down below.

Midnight Magic Join LCD Soundsystem For Farewell Shows

If you thought disco died a couple decades ago, then Midnight Magic might have some choice words for you.

The 9-piece (!!!) disco band will be the guest band for LCD Soundsystem’s last shows ever and will be playing an additional New York show with Cut Copy.

The group have also released a new video for their disco-centric “Beam Me Up”. Check it out.

So Good They Almost Induce A Riot

One of the last performances of this year’s SXSW ended on a bit of a sour note.

The first reunion show from Death From Above 1979, on a late SXSW Saturday night, erupted in gate-crashing and flare-ups between police and fans.

According to Spinner, about twenty minutes into the band’s set the gate around the venue went down under fan pressure. The police began to assemble and the band quit playing, warning the fans that they would only continue after everyone had calmed down.

After a couple tense minutes, the crowd calmed down and the band hurriedly finished its set, after which the audience was quickly dispersed. It just serves as a reminder that at SXSW, you never know what’s going to happen.

Third Man Records Hits The Road

Almost lost in the SXSW shuffle was an appearance by Jack White and his newest project.

No, not a new band but a mobile record store! The Third Man Rolling Record Store debuted on last Saturday, with an appearance by Jack and his newest record label signee, Seasick Steve.

White humored the amassed crowd with a brief, two-song performance (Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” and the White Stripe’s  “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground”) before giving the impromptu stage up for Seasick Steve.

After the brief concert, fans got to tour the Rolling Record Store, with its reinforced vinyl racks and the interior and exterior sound systems. Coated in Third Man Records trademark yellow and black, the truck looks both brand new and retro.
