Smith Westerns Welcome You Into The Studio

Towards the end of the recording sessions for their new album, Dye It Blonde, Smith Westerns invited director Ray Concepcion to join them in the studio. Concepcion lensed the band as they worked their way through the final stages of the recording process, and this week the resulting short film Die With Your Chin Up was released for your viewing pleasure. Javelin Create Some Canyon Candy


Cousins George Langford and Tom Van Buskirk have been recording together under the name Javelin since 2004. But, it wasn’t until 2010, when they toured extensively with Yeasayer, Girl Talk, Matt & Kim, Major Lazer, that things really started to take off for Javelin.

And now, 2011 looks to be an exciting year for the duo, due in large part to the release of their country western songbook Canyon Candy. The album will see release in two unique formats, 10’’ and PlayButton. The former of will see the light of day as a handmade collectors piece on Record Store Day (April 16), with the former following close behind.

Then, in late May, Javelin will launch a headlining tour that will take them across the continental U.S. Peep those dates down below.

Smith Westerns Set For Spring Tour


Smith Westerns’ self-recorded debut earned them critical praise and a record deal with Fat Possum. A myriad of tour dates with MGMT, Belle and Sebastian, Girls, and Passion Pit earned them adoration from the glam rock community. And, their sophomore record, Dye It Blonde, proved that they have staying power.

This spring they’re hitting the road again; this time with Wilco and Yeasayer for a tour that will take them across the pond to London and Amsterdam, up north to Canada and to numerous locations here in the US. Check out a full list of dates below.

Acrylics Release New Single

The duo Acrylics have just released a new single from their upcoming debut, Lives and Treasure. The song “Sparrow Song” can be heard below.


Acrylics’ first album was produced with the help of Matt Boynton (MGMT) and Britt Myers (Yeasayer) among others. Critics compare the duo favorably to other electronic-pop bands like Stars or Headlights.

Look for the band’s debut album March 1st, on Friendly Fire Records.

Chicago’s Smith Westerns dropped their second album last month, before embarking on a European tour with MGMT. Recently, it was announced that the group would continue touring stateside.
