Witte Beer Shines on “Fairlight”

Witte Beer is the electro-pop alias of Jeremy van Leeuwen from Toronto. The hard hitting sound of Witte Beer evokes likeness to artists like Kim Petras, SOPHIE, and Grimes. Bright bubblegum vocals deliver earworms that float crisply on top of the punchy framework.

After the success of his first single, “Cut You Loose,” Witte Beer is showing no signs of slowing down and continues to expand his musical artistry with his first EP, Fairlight.

For the EP, Witte Beer wanted to create more of a sonic motif than a lyrical one. Most of the melodies come as randomly as humming a tune in the shower, on a bike ride, or browsing through sound banks and all of a sudden creating a riff inspired by a new sound.

The title track, “Fairlight,” was written starting with the intro guitar phrase and portrays a sense of motion and anticipation. The sound came from a CMI Fairlight sound bank, which is a vintage sampler. Witte Beer felt so much inspiration from that single instrument that all of a sudden it became the project name and focal point.

“I spent many years working on electronic music in a bedroom and never releasing any of it as I found it unsatisfactory,” said Jeremy. “Jumping into pop was freeing – even for a relatively formulaic genre. I hated the minute long intros and outros of house music, trying to create those and maintain interest was tiresome, so this transition is a welcome chance.”

apollonio Dives Deep on “Moonta Bay”

Swallowed by OCD for the better part of a decade, it was in the solitude of the pandemic that Marc Apollonio discovered himself again. Years had disappeared into the mental disorder and his marriage broke up… but there he was, in a city silenced by COVID-19, starting to return to himself. He was privileged and fortunate: unlike many people, the pandemic brought more, rather than less free time. With the seclusion, his mind regained, he began working on new music.

The best artists are ones that are able to render diverse and complex themes into a few incredible minutes of words, melody and rhythm. apollonio’s hope is to bring the same truth to his music.

His first release is “Moonta Bay,” a nostalgic and accepting alternative pop song about the end of a significant relationship. Days before his marriage ended, apollonio and his wife were driving through rural Australia, near her hometown. It was an exceptional and happy day, but life goes on, despite important things disappearing. You keep going and there’s sadness and then new things come.

apollonio approached his friend, music producer and musician, Mark Andrade to see if he would help out with producing “Moonta Bay” and several others – to “Andradify” them. Mark brings his own vibe and sound to music and their goal while working together was to blend their vibes and visions.

The artwork shows an Australian magpie. They’re incredible, playful birds with strange, digital-sounding vocalizations. You can hear magpie calls worked into the song itself. They’re dear to apollonio’s heart and connected to the themes of the song.

Jane Jensen’s Two New Singles Are a Captivating Pair

Jane Jensen’s aesthetic encapsulates the glitz and glamour of the 1970’s variety shows consumed by rock and roll, poetry, and electronic music. While her mind and music tend to wander in many directions, her love for industrial music is the thread that weaves it all together.

Her new album, Changeling, consists of 2 new singles, the industrial alt rock “Changeling” and the industrial pop-punk “Revolution Maker,” each with a Dark Wave and Synth Pop remix. They are sister songs with “Changeling” contemplating rebirth and self-transformation and “Revolution Maker” acknowledging a failed state and calls for the universal hero.

Listen here:

“I wrote ‘Changeling’ and re-wrote it again and again until I felt it hit that emotional spot I needed to fill,” shares Jane. “The song means a lot to me for my own development as a person and as a producer. ‘Revolution Maker’ was a collaboration with Marc and Eric Klee Johnson. They invited me to be a back-up singer in their New Wave band back when I was in high school. The rest is history. Writing music is a magical process but working with dear friends is pure icing.”

Rising Indie Artist Josiah Mann Shares His First Single “Angel”

Ford Photographs – Nashville Architectural Photographer

Missouri born and raised indie artist Josiah Mann has released his new acoustic indie pop single, “Angel”, released September 1, 2022 from his debut album Grace

“I wrote the song “Angel” 16 years ago after falling in love for the first time. Prior to that relationship, I had never been in a serious relationship as an adult and really struggled with low self worth. To the outside world, I seemed to be accomplishing a lot with my life but I was super lonely. The song recounts our first night together and the feelings of elation and disbelief that someone so amazing and beautiful would actually want to be with me.”

“Angel” is a love ballad with introspective lyrics and a warm, melodic guitar and piano melody. The song tells a story of love, and the life journey with a vocal strength and vulnerability similar to the likes of John Meyer and Ed Sheeran.

Listen here:

Mann grew up in a family that was always struggling financially, and Josiah was bankrupt at the age of only 25. He was so determined to turn his life around, that he taught himself how to code and began earning a 6 figure salary. By the age of 35, he sold his software company for 7 figures.

After having established himself financially, Mann was then able to develop more of his musical talents and sought to release an album. His debut, “Grace” is a 10 song, self produced collection of songs that reflect on his upbringing and life journey so far.

With an authenticity and fresh talent on the indie pop scene, Joshua Mann is sure to attract a growing fanbase around the world.

AP Tobler Shares Their Next Hit Single “Claustrophobia”

Ab Tobler, who has been described as a “grunge poet”, tends to write about heavier laden topics like anxiety and depression.

In their latest track, “Claustrophobia,” from their upcoming EP Devoid, AP explores their musical range with heavy elements of grunge rock and, with a definite alt rock feel that sounds like Weezer or Green Day.

“In the melodic alt rock track ‘Claustrophobia,’ the lyric “I am imprisoned in this vessel, I can´t flee” is about the terrible feeling of being trapped in my own body,” they share.

The song describes how uncomfortable it feels for them in their own skin, but also to be yourself, fully and completely: “I wrote this track as I was getting through a spell of writer´s block, and the line ‘No longer can I synthesize it into sound’ references that struggle to turn pain into art.”

Listen here:

AP´s musical career began when they first discovered how to play drums at the age of 8. Since then, they’ve explored hard rock, alt rock, grunge, metal and jazz and have added both guitars and bass to their instrumental portfolio.

They began writing music at a young age, and performed at music events like PASIC and Sweetwater Gearfest.

Their post grunge sound, described as described as “existential post-grunge bops,” is sure to capture their already growing audience from previously released music, as well as new material.

Video Voyager: Yutao’s Lofi Single “Sensation”

Yutao is the indie bedroom pop artist based in Los Angeles. His songs are emotive but elusive, with lyrics that explore frustration, lost love, identity, wanting to belong, and music that is delicately dense with lush ambience and airy melodies. His aesthetic evokes alternative electro-pop artist keishi, and the vibrant scene of young Asian musicians around the 88rising record label.

His video for his latest single “Sensation,” is a hypnotic counterpart to the song. It’s somehow both still and ever-moving. He captures a sense of passion and whirling emotions, the sensations of a new relationship, but also shares the fast-paced nature of it. The camera never stops moving, almost like a visual time limit. Nothing lasts forever.

We spoke with Yutao about the music video for “Sensation”:

Tell us the story of this song, why did you choose to visualize this song specifically in this way?

The story of this song is about capturing the sensation of those “fireworks” like emotion & relationship. As if two people know nothing will last, the moment is too beautiful to pass.

What was the inspiration behind this video?

The inspiration summarizes my past relationship experience; just when you were still in the moment of the “firework,” the show ended without you even realizing it.

What was the process of making this video?

We found a location in LA where the owner renovated the whole house into a trippy greenhouse. After discussing the direction, we decided to take the approach to a more dreamy and psychedelic type of experience to recreate the short-lasting sensation.
