Pavement @ Central Park, NYC – 9/24/2010

Pavement @ Central Park, NYC 9-24-2010
Pavement went out with a bang on Friday night. Their last of 5 NYC area shows, I just want to let the pictures speak for themselves. The band looked happy. The fans looked happy. If they stay together, even if just for touring purposes once in a while, we’ll all be happy. Pavement. We love you.

Pavement Drop By Fallon, Play Last NYC Show Tonight

If you are lucky enough to spend the last night in NYC with Pavement today, make it a good one. The show starts only in a matter of hours. To hold you over until then, check out the performances the band did on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night! They played “Unfair,” and “Stereo,” the latter on the internet only, with contest winner Steve Goss. Lucky bastard. You can watch those below.

Pavement goes on at 8pm tonight at Central Park. Tickets are sold out. See you there!

Pavement – Central Park Summerstage, NYC – 9/22/2010

Somehow a whole year passed without me losing my precious Pavement tickets. Though they almost got thrown out twice, they survived. Last night was the first time I have ever seen Pavement live and it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.

To be honest with you lately for the most part I have been semi-bored with shows. They seem to be lacking something. Pavement is where I found the missing link. One of the greatest things to ever happen in Indie rock is this iconic band reuniting, and you could tell by their smiles on stage, they were not taking the situation for granted.

The fans trickled in slowly mostly after openers Times New Viking took the stage. Understandable. I didn’t even know what was going on with the opening act because I just wanted to see Pavement. The crowd was sprinkled with celebrities (very lightly. also, depending on your perception of celebrity) like Brian Bell of Weezer and the Ace of Cakes crew who was there giving the guys a horse cake. Apparently this will be on a future episode of the show.

The band played around 25 songs, a few less than they played in NYC the night before. The cause of this was the 15 minute break Pavement had to take for the thunder storm. Let me tell you, we got SOAKED, and that is putting it lightly. Though it didn’t stop the crowd or the band from having fun. When you spend a year waiting for a reunion show of the best band ever, you better make sure you see it. Even for a while when you could see Stephen Malkmus from the side of the stage looking up at the sky, it looked like he just wanted to jump back on and play regardless. The band came back on and did an astonishing set that will not be forgotten.

The rumor was in the 1990s that Pavement wasn’t much of a ‘great live act.’ Fast forward to 2010 and they just blew the whole audience away. Tighter and better than ever, especially Bob Nastanovich who could scream without missing a breath. They seemed to love being Pavement again. Thats what matters most, right?

Some of the highlights of the show were “Range Life,” “Stereo,” “Zurich,” “Summer Babe,” “Father to a Sister of Thought,” “Gold Soundz,” “Cut Your Hair,” umm..okay the whole setlist.

Tomorrow I hit up round two of the band at Central Park and I couldn’t be any more excited. Pavement ist rad.

Secondhand Sunday: Pavement “Stereo”

In a month from now, we’ll be seeing Pavement hit the stage together for the first time in nearly 10 years. Are we excited? OF COURSE. We’ve been talking about the reunion since, well before it even started. Actually we’re starting a rad little project in their honor starting on March 1st, so be sure to check back to see what we have in store for you….Hmm you’re interested now, aren’t you? Check out this week’s version of Secondhand Sunday. Pavement’s “Stereo,” one of my earliest memories of falling in love with this brilliant band. Enjoy.

Secondhand Sunday: Pavement ‘Gold Soundz’

Today’s Secondhand Sunday is dedicated to PAVEMENT. Okay we are ridiculously excited, like most, about their upcoming reunion tour. We all know it can lead to more things, and if not, we all have the chance to experience them live if we missed it in the 90’s. Myself included. Though most of us thought this day would never happen, and if it did, it would be about 10 years from now.  What is totally odd about this reunion is the fact that the past couple of weeks I have felt it coming. I’ve been listening to all of my old Pavement records, and only that. Most of the Modern Mystery staff has been talking lately about ‘What if Pavement reunited? Maybe we could stalk them out and talk them into it!’ The second part was just a joke (as I didn’t think we were going to Stephen Malkmus’ house anytime soon), but we just thought it was something that should happen.

On this note, I want to tell you about a new venture we have started. As of September 22, 2009 we are starting Project Pavement on Twitter. What in the world is this you ask? Well to celebrate the countdown to the first Pavement reunion show scheduled for September 22, 2010, we are going to leak any news we can get our hands on as things are updated. Also, every day will be a new Pavement lyric to get you into the vibe of things. Ist rad.

Watch this week’s Secondhand Sunday, Pavement ‘Gold Soundz’. It just fits….Go back to those gold sounds…
