Sam Roberts Band Announces Upcoming New Album, ‘Collider’

Sam Roberts Band will release their new album, Collider on May 10th on Zoë/Rounder Records. Produced by Chicago-based producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse / Iron and Wine,) Collider is the follow up to Roberts’ critically acclaimed album Love At The End Of The World.

“There’s got to be some desperation to your writing,” Roberts says. “You’ve got to maintain that feeling of survival – that you can lose your grip at any time. That’s where songs like these come from – from the realization that you can never figure it out completely, that your grip can never hold on forever. It’s always there; every time I sit down to write. That’s why the record is called what it is: ideas collide, especially when you’re making music. When you take things that are seemingly different, you can smash them together and create something new.”

Idiot Glee on Tour Soon!

Idiot Glee’s (AKA James Friley) tour is underway promoting his first LP, Paddywhack to be released on June 7.

“Happy Day” which can be downloaded on daytrotter.com along with other Idiot Glee songs shows us an artist who sings knowingly about about, well, not so happy days but the 60s California vocal style, the sleepy yet jaunty keyboard lines and even a “Bohemian Rhapsody” reference slipped in suggest some latent brighter sides beneath the dark in which he sings. The effective vocal looping and double tracking beefs up the somewhat minimal one man show involving just his voice and electronics, which on their own are already substantial, especially the former element.

Friley’s rendition of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine,” is fantastically creepy, avant-garde and respectfully soulful. Based on the few recorded treats he presently has available, Paddywhack should prove to be an interesting and pleasant surprise. Idiot Glee will be performing at SXSW March 16-18 in between upcoming shows around the South and the Gulf Coast.

New Song: Queen Mash Up Featuring Armageddon AKA Geddy from “Sucker Punch” Soundtrack

Hot off the presses…From the upcoming “Sucker Punch: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” out March 22nd – the audio companion to the film director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) describes as “Alice In Wonderland with machine guns,” is an original mash up of Queen’s “I Want It All/We Will Rock You” featuring Armageddon Aka Geddy (Terror Squad).

“Sucker Punch is a film created with multiple levels of reality, so this same layered construct had to be considered and applied when approaching the music. The selection of songs we chose and the various ways in which they were each re-envisioned had to add depth, dimension and meaning to the sequences they exist within. Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge!) and composer Tyler Bates (Watchmen, Californication) did an amazing job creating an intricate musical landscape to accompany the surreal imagery of the film” says Snyder.
