STRFKR to Release Sophomore Album in March

Who knew death could be so danceable? This is the realization gained after learning that badass synth explosion of pop you’ve been dancing to contains a major theme on Starfucker’s second album: death. It seems the joke is on the consumer of Reptilians, to be released on Polyvinyl in March.

“Bury Us Alive” is the single available for download off the new album. It’s light and effervescent musically with a delightful synth line and silky vocals a la The Dandy Warhols who coincidentally share producer Jacob Portrait with Reptilians’. “Death to set me free” is the line that leads into the exhilarating, hyperactive chorus on “Bury Us Alive,” lending itself to a “live life like the next day is your last” spirit.

It’s a good thing after playing with other band names that they stuck with Starfucker, as it’s immensely fun to say and encompasses that glam party chasing lifestyle inherit in their sound.

Of Montreal Announce Spring Tour (Yay!), Talk New Album

Though we are in the midst of awaiting another snow storm in New York, our favorite glam rockers Of Montreal are already warming things up by announcing their spring tour. The band has a few more dates coming up this month and then the party kicks off all over again in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Like all other Of Montreal tours, there will be plenty of costumed players and stage props around that will fill the stage. What new chapter the tale will take is up in the air but we are sure that Kevin’s brother, the infamous David Barnes, has something great cooking up as usual.

After this tour, Barnes and co. will head back into the studio to start working on the follow up to last years’ False Priest (Polyvinyl), in their “never rest,” fashion. New songs are already slated to be played on tour as well as old favorites, and covers. The next record Barnes admits to being inspired by the newest Sufjan Stevens release The Age of Adz. Go figure. The band will release the EP The Controller Sphere (Polyvinyl) which will be available on tour. Check out the tour dates below and get out your glitter!

Asobi Seksu is Laying Down The “Trails” to Greatness

The count is album number four for artist Asobi Seksu.  Fluorescence is available is available to all of North America just one day after the U.K. release on the 14th.  It will be on a variety of formats such as CD, LP, Digital Formats, and for those super-fans a limited edition pink vinyl. So you heard it here there are only 1500 of those puppies get it first.  They are promoting their album with the single “Trails” which is now open for MP3 Download.  This wonderful track will be accompanied by a video at the start of the New Year, can’t wait to see it.

It seems that sometimes the best defense is a good offense.  That is the approach that was taken going into this album. Do the opposite of what you intend and get the best result.  James Hanna puts it this way “This time, our agenda was not to have one at all; to be mellow about the entire process instead of obsessing over everything.”  Personally I don’t think Mellow is the right word.  Maybe strategic chaos.  I know that’s an oxymoron but I have heard the single of the upcoming album myself and it combines illusionary synthesizing with a strong grunge-pop core to set your mind of balance. And just when you think you have a grip on the sound…. BAM! They through in these glorious vocals like a celebration of the comsuming anarchy falling around you…  It’s pretty intense but please don’t take my word for it go download it yourself, who doesn’t like a free experience?

Someone Still Love You Boris Yeltsin Releases New Video for “Sink/Let It Sway”

In the post-CMJ world we somehow totally MISSED this! Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin has just released the first video for the single “Sink/Let It Sway” off of their newest record, Let It Sway (Polyvinyl). The action pact video shows all four members running around and (not) keeping out of trouble. It reminds us why we love these boys so much. They’re such fun!
