Delicate Steve Reveals “Wondervisions” Cover Art + Tracklisting & Tour News!

“Delicate Steve makes music. And in today’s awful world, that’s almost all that matters. Right?” So concludes the wordy, is-it-a-joke press release from this New Jersey-based instrumental outfit comprised of five friends all in their early twenties. Such starry-eyed naivete is precious coming from the likes of band leader and multi-instrumentalist Steve Marion who is, after all, delicate. Whether the fact that Mr. Marion and his young cohorts make music is indeed all that matters is yet to be determined, however, but may be soon as the band has released the cover art and track listing from it’s debut LP, Wondervisions, set to be released February 1st on Luaka Bop records.

Cloud Nothings Release New Single, “Understand At All”

Cloud Nothings just came out with a dreamy new song. The band started only a year ago with Dylan Baldi making lo-fi rock out of his parent’s basement outside of Cleveland. In the past year Cloud Nothings has released an EP, singles and made their way on tour coast to coast. Not bad for only a year on their own. “Understand It All” is from Cloud Nothings first self-titled full length, produced by Baltimore’s Chester Gwazda, known for his work with Dan Deacon and Future Islands.

Recorded at the home of Wham City, Baltimore’s Copycat Building, the scratchy catchy tune makes me desperately want to escape on a European holiday to see them with Les Savy Fav in Amsterdam on their upcoming tour. Dylan Baldi records all the tracks by his lonesome so let’s hope the live band keeps up the great energy. “Cloud Nothings” is released January 25th, 2011.

Levi’s Website Offering Limited-Time Free Download of The Duke Spirit’s New Song “Procession”

Rocker chics are awesome. They last and last and last, getting better and sexier through the ages, becoming increasingly harder to toss out, kind of like your favorite pair of Levis.  Though they’re not new to the fashion world at all, it’s still pretty button-fly-fitting that The Duke Spirit, fronted by the throaty vocal styling’s of Liela Moss, are offering a free download of their track “Procession” on Levi’s Web site. Liela inspired designers Philip Lim and the late Alexander McQueen and now the quintessential denim brand is cozying up to The Duke Spirit with a limited-time offering of this free track.

“Procession” comes off of The Duke Spirit’s, Bruiser, sounding somewhat like Patti Smith meets The Dead Weather-covering-Pavement, in a heady, heavy and addictively comfy perfect track for winter playlisting. Now if The Duke Spirit would only offer a free pair of Levi’s when you buy their new album…

View All Photos | photo by Olivia Hemaratanatorn | KISSES

Kisses, the dream pop duo from Los Angeles, announced last week that they will embark on a seven city west coast tour that began Friday night in San Diego, CA. Tonight they play Crepe Place in Santa Cruz, CA. The tour is in support of their debut release The Heart of the Nightlife which will be released in the U.S. on November, 16th. The album has already come out in the UK to glowing reviews.

Kisses is made up of lead singer and songwriter Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson, keyboards and backing vocals. Together they have created a sound reminiscent of early days of new wave music with a hint of ‘70s disco thrown into the mix while at the same time keeping their sound very current and fresh. Front man Kivel says that he likes to write songs that take people out of their every day lives.

“Great pop music is about escape. Kisses is about entering into another world,” Kivel explained.

The Octopus Project Release ‘Hexadecagon’ as a Double-ish Album

Vinyl’s been back in style for a while and people have already gotten bored with it. Not bored enough to abandon the format again, thankfully, but enough to try to update the technology in a race to follow some analog subset of Moore’s Law. First there was Jack White’s Triple Decker Record, now The Octopus Project, with their preternaturally conceptualized double album, Hexadecagon, have their own innovation to share. Though on two slabs of vinyl, Hexadecagon will only occupy three sides. The fourth side will contain exclusive tracks in an arrangement described as “roulette grooves,” meaning you never know what track will play when you put the needle down.

On top of this, the band is including a DIY Zoetrope you can lay over the record while playing, and each song will produce it’s very own stop-motion animated sequence. Does this album even have to be good for you to enjoy it? Regardless, even if these features are just gimmicks, they’re pretty damn cool gimmicks. If your confounded as to the mechanics of a Zoetrope, The Octopus Project have included a wonderful instructional video so you can make your own.

Weekend Out On The Road

San Francisco- based shoegazin’ trio, Weekend have been described as a band that takes the aggression of punk and filters it through a wall of reverb.

Favorably compared to bands such as No Age, Sonic Youth and Skullflower, the band has already released two sold-out EPs. The band has finished work on their first full length, Sports which is set to be released this upcoming Tuesday,November 9.

Weekend has also released a video from their upcoming album. You can check out “Monday Morning/Monongah, WV” below.
