Grimes Releases New Music Video and Announces Tour With Lykke Li

Grimes cannot read music and has no experience with theory or notation. However, she releases unique, melancholic, catchy weird pop melodies that are strangely addictive.

But don’t let her music background fool you…

Her 12″ Split with d’Eon entitled Darkbloom is out tomorrow, the Halfaxa LP is out now on Arbutus Records and a Sophomore LP is TBA. Grimes has also received rave reviews from BBC Music, Montreal Mirror, among other noted critics. Not to mention in May she begins a US tour with Lykke Li and released music video for “Vanessa”.

Radical Dads To Release ‘Mega Rama’ June 14th

The Radical Dads announced the release their very first full-length album June 14th. For those who have not heard of this band, you are urged to head to their website and listen to “Reckless” with your windows open and the speakers vibrating. The song is a mix of pretty vocals, growling guitars, and a hammering drum. The band, which formed in 2008, is comprised of Lindsay Baker (singer/guitarist), Robbie Guertin, of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (singer/drummer), and Chris Diken (guitarist). Radical Dads released their self-titled EP in May 2009 and the “Reckless” 7-inch in December 2010. Their album is being released by Uninhabitable Mansions, an art collective and record label based in Brooklyn. And for all of you Brooklynites, there will be a show at Goodbye Blue Monday, celebrating Ms. Bakers’ birthday. Check out the show, fall in love with the band, and buy their album on June 14th.

The Decemberists’ Jenny Conlee Reveals She Has Cancer

Last week, The Decemberists accordian and keyboard player Jenny Conlee has stated that she has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, the cancer seems to have been caught early enough for her to make a recovery from the illness. In an e-mail statement from the band, they wrote:

“While the prognosis is very, very good for a full recovery, tackling the disease will mean some intensive treatment for our Jenny as well as a lot of important recovery time.”

Conlee will not be touring with the band this month or in June to recover and rest from her treatment. She’s going to be one hard lady to replace on tour.

Conlee wrote in the announcement that:

“It has been great to be on tour these past few weeks. The band and crew are like family to me and have been incredibly supportive and understanding. To be making music with everyone and seeing the fans has helped me to feel more positive and keep my mind off of my diagnosis. But, alas, as the tour winds down, it is time for me to get back to reality. I will try to get into surgery as soon as I can after we return from this leg of the tour so I can begin my recovery. There are still a few unknowns out there concerning my cancer, but I am thinking positive and hope to be back on the road soon.”

Our prayers and thoughts are with you Jenny. Have a speedy recovery and get well soon!

Kevin Spacey Fights Cassettes Won’t Listen

Most people would be flattered to have an album titled after them. Well, apparently actor Kevin Spacey is not one of those people. Jason Drake also known as Cassettes Won’t Listen originally planned on naming the record after the insane actor. Spacey has slapped Drake with a a cease-and-desist order, of course after several thousand copies of Kevinspacey have been printed. The album will now be called Evinspacey…umm clever? It will drop June 21st on Daylight Curfew records. This is Drake’s second cease-and-desist order, as he also got slapped with one in 2008 for the Guns N’ Roses and Ludacris mashup “Ludacris Democracy.” Cassettes really won’t listen.
