STRFKR Debuts “Julius” Remix, Readies National Tour

Portland-based STRFKR (now without vowels) have been hard at work in the studio for a while now, mastering their upcoming album for Polyvinyl.

Well, hard at work for most of the time. You can see some footage of the band in their studio below.

Now the vowel-less quartet has teamed up with upcoming artists Painted Palms for a remix of their song “Julius.”

You can listen to the original first…

Freelance Whales Announce Massive Fall Tour

Freelance Whales are already having a great fall and it’s not even October.

The band’s music was featured in a promo for the redesign of a little program called Twitter. The video has been viewed over a million times already and features sightings of the Tweet bird in the wild and Freelance Whales’ “Generation 1st Floor.”

That would make for a pretty good month by itsel, but the band also released its new EP Weathervanes on Frenchkiss/Mom & Pop Records and released its first single (with video) in “Hannah.”

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Announce Secret Show for Tomorrow Night (9/22) in Brooklyn

This week marks the 10 year anniversary of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. To celebrate, the band has decided to put on a special surprise show that will take place tomorrow night, Wednesday 9/22, at Monster Island Basement in Brooklyn. Yes we know it’s like the tiniest place ever for them to be playing, but that’s exactly what they are going for here.

The band left this statement about the show:

“Happy Birthday YYYS! This week marks 10 years since YYYs played our first small club show in the big city! Our birthday wish is to play a show as small or smaller than back in the day and get NOSTALGIC with our friends Todd P and Secret Project Mighty Robot on September 22. So dust off your Machine EPs or maybe give Yeah New York! a whirl because we’re digging up some oldies but goodies, heavy on the early catalogue. It’s back to basics, just the three of us and a couple hundred of you. Accommodations will be tight so we’d like to apologize in advance to those who want to be there but don’t get in, we thank you for humoring us with this selfish wish to make it so puny!”

The show is ALL AGES and tickets are $20.
They go on sale at SECRET PROJECT ROBOT on Tuesday September 21 (TODAY) between 6-8pm ONLY!

We Are Trees Drop Debut EP on Wax and The Web

wearetrees boyfriend1 [Hypeworthy] We Are Trees’ Boyfriend EP

With an EP called Boyfriend on the way and a lead singer from Virginia Beach, it would be a safe assumption to tag We Are Trees as the latest lo-fi/chillwave sensation. Safe, but wrong. We Are Trees take fidelity seriously. Violins strings hum, James Nee’s Daniel Rossen-style vocals ring out, and you can even hear whisping. Still not convinced? Here is a track off the EP, “Sunrise Sunset,” which will be out digitally and on vinyl November 9th from Collective Crowd Records. You can bundle up for $12 with a pre-order HERE.

Neon Indian Heads West (Mostly)

Upon the release of last year’s Psychic Chasms heard the indie world over, Neon Indian is setting out on a tour in support of the slew of remasters and remixes that further champion his original effort. Chasms is being released as a newly mastered deluxe CD and double vinyl edition on September 28th, including remixes and covers from Toro Y Moi, Bibio, Javelin, and YACHT.

Fret not on the lack of new tunes, though, as Neon Indian just released the single, “Sleep Paralysist” on Green Label Sound. Look forward to hearing the new track, which was produced by Palomo and Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor, on these dates:
