Oberhofer Prep for Tour with Live Sessions Release

Brooklyn based Oberhofer released two different radio sessions onto the interweb. Unfortunately, as far as we can tell, BreakThru Radio has already taken down the audio from their session with Oberhofer. Daytrotter’s, however, is still up. And, even better, its available for download. The Daytrotter session offers a  nice taste of the band’s music for new fans looking to hear more. The sessions’ closing number, “House,” is especially good.

Known for their live shows, Oberhofer will be hitting the road beginning in January. Said tour will see them playing with bands like Distractions, The Vaccines and Tapes N’ Tapes. Check out the list of dates below.

Unicycle Love You & The Holidays

Looking to wrap up a year that saw the release of their sophomore album, Mirror, Mirror, Unicycle Loves You have announced plans for a holiday show at Chicago’s Beat Kitchen. The cult-film inspired surf-rock group, who hail from Chicago originally, will invade Beat Kitchen on on Thursday, December 30 with help from openers Elephant Gun and Laarks.

Doors open at 9pm, and you’ll want to arrive promptly. Because, the first 100 attendees will received a copy Unicycle Loves You’s new album, as well as a 20 page “not-so-much for kids” coloring book created by guitarist Jim Carroll and bassist Nicole Vitale.  Unicycle Love You was also kind enough to offer us their new single “There’s a Giant Walking in My Heart” for free download. Grab it down below!

The New Odd Couple: Jaime xx and Gil Scott Heron

2010 saw a rise to fame for frontman Jamie xx of The xx and a return to prominence for fusion artist Gil Scott Heron. After a 13 year hiatus from music, Heron released I’m New Here to mostly rave reviews, while Jamie saw equally positive reviews pour in for his band’s debut album, xx.

Now, the pair are teaming up for what is sure to be one of 2011’s most intriguing releases. Less of a collaboration than a reinterpretation, Jamie plans on taking 13 of the songs Heron recorded during the I New Here sessions and twisting them into a new body of work. Entitled We’re New Here, the album is set to be released on February 22nd.

The first single from We’re New Here, “NY is Killing Me,” was released earlier this week and is currently available for download HERE. You can also peep the video down below.

Free Energy Set to Join Weezer on Tour

Over the last 8 weeks or so, DFA’s Free Energy have been rolling out a series of videos entitled “Free Energy’s Power Hour.” An odd mix of comedy and music, the the series was written and directed by the band with help from director, producer and friend Ben Nabors.

Lest we forget what the Free Energy boys are actually known for, they’re currently in the midst of a SPIN Magazine sponsored tour with Foxy Shazam. And, later this month they’ll join Weezer for a handful of shows. A full list of dates can be found down below.

Tame Impala Give Abby May Remix Treatment

After months in the studio, Australian born Abbe May has emerged with a whole lot of material. Sporting a new band and an even darker rock sound, May released the first single from her forthcoming album in October. The song, entitled “Mammalian Locomotion,” recently received remix treatment from Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and Cam Avery. I’m not sure the remix really improves on May’s song, but we’ve included it down below for your listening pleasure.
