Jimmy Fallon Welcomes Local Natives

2010 has been a particularly good year for Frenchkiss Records’ Local Natives. Under the Radar Magazine named their album Gorilla Manor the year’s greatest debut and Daytrotter said their music evokes a feeling “that you can only attain if you’re head over heels with the very thought of maximizing all that’s in your heart.”

Local Natives surely hope to use that momentum to propel them forward in 2011, and they’ll get a chance when they play Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on January 4th. Beyond that, the band also has a remix album in the works.

Oberhofer Prep for Tour with Live Sessions Release

Brooklyn based Oberhofer released two different radio sessions onto the interweb. Unfortunately, as far as we can tell, BreakThru Radio has already taken down the audio from their session with Oberhofer. Daytrotter’s, however, is still up. And, even better, its available for download. The Daytrotter session offers a  nice taste of the band’s music for new fans looking to hear more. The sessions’ closing number, “House,” is especially good.

Known for their live shows, Oberhofer will be hitting the road beginning in January. Said tour will see them playing with bands like Distractions, The Vaccines and Tapes N’ Tapes. Check out the list of dates below.

Tennis Sign To Fat Possum and Prepare Debut LP

The duo from Denver that make up Tennis have been getting a lot of internet love this past year, so it’s unbelievable to find that not only have they not released an album, but it won’t be out until January 2011.  Hoping to not get outpaced by their own hype, Tennis seem to be going down the appropriate indie rock checklist at the moment:
release a 7″, shows, another 7″, more shows, internet acclaim, tour, sign to an accredited label…. and album.

If you’re wondering “what tour?” and “what accredited label?”  The answers are dates with The Walkmen and Japandroids, and Fat Possum.   If you still feel the need to figure this band out a little more before committing to a $8-$15 ticket, here is a link to the always lovely Daytrotter session they were featured on.

The Miniature Tigers on Daytrotter with 2 New Songs!

Its always kind of nice to hear one of your favorite new bands are already cranking out new material. The Miniature Tigers stopped by our beloved Daytrotter.com to perform songs off their first and recent record Tell it to the Volcano along with a couple of new songs.  Sometimes, I tend to think that The Miniature Tigers are not human. Maybe they were created by a mad scientist in a petri dish with one ultimate goal: to rock. Their Daytrotter performance is one word: PERFECT and is actually my favorite to date. Charlie Brand’s vocals are impeccable and the Mini T’s blend perfectly together even when stripped down. I can’t urge you enough to check them out!

The band will also be on tour this spring with Kevin Devine. Check out their MYSPACE for the complete list of tour dates.

The Morning Benders Return to Daytrotter

Today Daytrotter had an extra special treat (for us at least!). The Morning Benders have returned for a second time to provide us with 3 more Daytrotter session songs. The Morning Benders are one of those bands that everything they touch turns to gold. Chris Chu’s voice is remarkable on every occassion, especially in a Daytrotter session.

The first song the band performed was an alternate version of ‘Patient Patient’ called ‘Doctor Doctor’,  which makes the song a bit darker, but nonetheless still beautiful.  The second song titled ‘Worth the Fight’ was a track that was left off of ‘Talking Through Tin Cans’ because the band didn’t feel it fit well with the other songs. Maybe a studio version of the song will make it onto the new Morning Benders record.  The final song the band recorded for Daytrotter is ‘Nothin’ in This World Can Stop Me Worryin’ Bout That Girl,’ a Kink’s cover which the band started playing around with the night before. This is one incredible cover, but hey, The Morning Benders are an incredible band.
