Tennis Does a “Yours Truly” Session

Tennis has just released their debut album, Cape Dory, and so far it seems to be quite the epic tail. This folky pop/smooth listening group, are able to grasp listeners attention just by the wonderful storytelling intertwined within the songs. The inspiration behind the album involved newlyweds who escape the vigor’s of life and set sail, making countless memories and dreams come true.

Tennis goes more into detail on “Your Truly“, and you can read one of the letters that inspired the whole concept.

Hear a Track From the New Tennis Album, “Cape Dory”

Amongst the plethora of lo-fi bands to surface seemingly out of nowhere this year, perhaps Tennis has remained the buzziest. No easy feat considering the fickle attention span of the indie blogosphere and their disciples.

The baby of husband and wife team Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore and based in Denver, Tennis constructs Brian Wilson-inspired pop songs and presents them in classic three minute packages. On “Take Me Somewhere”, the first track revealed from the band’s debut LP, Cape Dory, out January 18th on Fat Possum, the duo sticks with the format that brought them the buzz in the first place, even adding doo-wop background vocals that call to mind the girl groups of the sixties.

Tennis Sign To Fat Possum and Prepare Debut LP

The duo from Denver that make up Tennis have been getting a lot of internet love this past year, so it’s unbelievable to find that not only have they not released an album, but it won’t be out until January 2011.  Hoping to not get outpaced by their own hype, Tennis seem to be going down the appropriate indie rock checklist at the moment:
release a 7″, shows, another 7″, more shows, internet acclaim, tour, sign to an accredited label…. and album.

If you’re wondering “what tour?” and “what accredited label?”  The answers are dates with The Walkmen and Japandroids, and Fat Possum.   If you still feel the need to figure this band out a little more before committing to a $8-$15 ticket, here is a link to the always lovely Daytrotter session they were featured on.
