Free Energy Announce New Tour Dates… With Weezer!

Free Energy are on a roll. Their debut album, Stuck On Nothing,  which came out in March on Astralwerks/DFA Records, was produced by Mr. James Murphy, Rolling Stone’s words to describe it are, very simply, “It totally fucking rules”
and Pitchfork calls them “totally rad.” Not bad for a first album.

Things are getting bigger now as they will be joining Weezer’s Memories Tour for the band’s Boston and New York dates in December! We have all the dates below! Meanwhile, they still have a good month accompanying Foxy Shazam around the country (we have those dates too) but are making a point to keep those who cannot follow them on the road entertained with the “Free Energy Power Hour.” During this express TV show, the band shows off their comedic skills with mock tape repair ad and parodies of tacky buddy sitcoms, among others. You can view the second episode right HERE!

Violens Premiere New Track And Video Right In Time For Halloween

Violens

If you’re working out your post Halloween Party playlists, or if you’re that fancy, creepy video playlists to project on the large white walls in your loft for your equally creepily-costumed friends, look no further. New York trio Violens have prepared and released a little present for you. In preparation for the release of their debut album Amoral on November 9th via Static Recital/Friendly Fire, the band has released the first video from the album, for the song “Violent Sensation Descends”.

Directed by Alejandro Cardenas, the video features the band in priest costumes and crucifix masks, zombie drummers, bloody keyboard players and flashy images of blood tainted skulls. Along with the horror movie-inspired keyboard riffs, you should everything set up for the perfect atmosphere (or at least 2:16 minutes of your party).

Watch the video below:

And listen to the song here:

And if you want to find out whether Violens can translate that same eeriness live, they will be playing a few dates in the US and Canada in November so check the dates below and go see for yourself!

11/06 Detroit, MI – Magic Stick

CMJ 2010: Playtime! & Candid Band Photos

We have TONS of our Playtime! sessions to post in the coming days, but what we love to do is catching bands in the action of playing these private little performances. Yes catching the amazing shows of your favorite up and comers and old favorites is a highlight of CMJ, but there is nothing more thrilling than getting the inside scoop of your favorite artists straight from the source.

Seabear Head On US Tour, A Remix Of “I’ll Build you A Fire” In Hand

Iceland isn’t all about Björk, Eyjafjallajökull and geysers and Seabear are right here to remind us of it. Sindri Már Sigfússon and his band mates are returning to the US for the last two weeks of October to give us a refresher of their second full-length We Built A Fire, out on Morr Music. Their trip will take them from New York to San Diego and will even include a shared bill with Blitzen Trapper.

In preparation for their return, Seabear have released a remix for the song “I’ll Build You A Fire” from the band FM Belfast who, as their name does not indicate, are also from Iceland. They bring in a smooth electronic vibe that takes the song from a graceful acoustic folk to a sweet track, perfect for warming up for the dancefloor.
