New Arctic Monkeys ‘Crying Lightning’

Back with their third album, The Arctic Monkeys have just released the single ‘Crying Lightning’.Luckily for the band they’ve broken the sophomore album curse and are still continuing to make waves. While the song has the Arctic Monkeys ‘vibe’ we all know and love, it definitely shows that the band is growing. This is of course a good thing especially since most didn’t think the band would last long. The Arctic Monkeys will release the new record, ‘Humbug’ on August 25 via Domino Records.  Oddly enough, it was produced by Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age.

Regina Spektor to Release New Album

It has been quite sometime since we’ve heard from songstress Regina Spektor. About to release her new album titled ‘Far’ out June 23rd on Sire Records, Spektor has already reached the number 20 spot on itunes within the first day of preorder. I remember the first time I saw or even heard her play. She opened for The Strokes on their tour for ‘Room on Fire’ at the theater at Madison Square Garden. Then she was just a girl with a keyboard, a snare drum and a voice. Most memorably, she performed a song called ‘Reading Time with Pickle’. It is completely amazing how much she has grown since then.  ‘Far’  like all Regina Spektor albums, is worth picking up.

You can catch Regina Spektor on tour starting in NYC on June 17th. From there she is off to Europe.

Cage the Elephant ‘Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked’

Sometimes late night music videos capture my attention. Case in point, Cage the Elephant, a band that has been surrounded by a ‘great big buzz’ lately. The Kentucky five piece who started gaining attention in the UK before they even broke out here, have been making waves with their first single ‘Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked’. The tune sounds like the love child between The White Stripes and The Black Keys, both flattering comparisions. Blending a bit of soul and blues into their rock and roll vibe, Cage the Elephant is already on their way to being the next ‘big thing’.

The Strokes Working on New Record

The time has finally come.  Modern day garage heroes, and much missed may I add, The Strokes are finally working on album number 4! It seems so long since ‘First Impressions of Earth’ was released. In fact its been 3 years since we’ve heard from the band as a collective. I guess Albert, Fab and Niko are ready to pry themselves away from their side projects for now and bring it back to where it all started. One little band, that believe it or not, was really the beginning of the new garage revival (people didn’t start caring about The White Stripes until after)

Fab stated in the most recent issue of NME that Julian and Nick have already started to write songs for the new record, but nothing has been recorded just yet. The article also states that the band is gearing up to start recording sometime in February. That means a new Strokes record by the year’s end. One word: Excitement!

Little Joy ‘Keep Me in Mind’

I’m usually one to complain that The Strokes still haven’t put out a fourth long awaited album, but I think I can stop whining for at least a little while. Drummer Fab Moretti by far takes the cake for the ‘best Strokes side project’ with his newest band, Little Joy. Megapuss and Little Joy? When does this guy sleep? Little Joy is also made up of Binki Shapiro and Rodrigo Amarante, who have the most infectious voices that you will ever hear.

What gets me about Little Joy is the fact they remind me of The Strokes, especially in the song ‘Keep Me in Mind.’ Its more about the vibe than anything else, and Little Joy is certainly their own thing. There’s just something about them that makes you want more and more.
