Figurines And An Horse Premiere Videos on MTV2

With their recent stellar performance at SXSW behind them, Australian duo An Horse are wasting no time in conjuring up interest in their latest single “Dressed Sharply”.  The first single off their highly anticipated new album, Walls, premiered on MTV2 last week.  You can catch it on the MTV.com Buzzworthy site here.   Walls will hit stores on April 26th via Mom+Pop Music and to celebrate its release, An Horse will kick off its tour at New York City’s Knitting Factory and then heading south sharing dates with Alkaline Trio and Manchester Orchestra.

And in other news, the Danish trio Figurines will be releasing their self-titled third album via The Control Group on April 12th.  The band launched its video for “Hanging From Above” on MTV.com Hive.  MTV also featured the band’s track “Free Today” on a recent episode of “Skins”.  In support of their new album, Figurines are hitting the road in the northeastern U.S. for the first time in nearly four years.

Band of Horses Cover The Replacements “Can’t Hardly Wait”

The Replacements have always been a band near and dear to my hear. Paul Westerberg is a true poet and writes some of the saddest songs known to man.  This week indie Gods, Band of Horses, who just released their new record Infinite Arms (Brown Records/Fat Possum/Columbia), decided to try their hand at playing a cover of “Can’t Hardly Wait.” Yes this is one of the most well known Mats songs so I can only imagine the pressure was on. Band of Horses claims it was their first time playing the song, and boy did they nail it. Talk about having the ability to make a song even sadder sounding. The band played the song live on Columbus, Ohio’s CD101.1FM radio station.

Watch it below, or download it. As far as we know we’re the only one who has an MP3 of it right now. Sneaky, eh? Enjoy.

Bat for Lashes Release New Video for ‘Sleep Alone’

Lately I’ve been on a huge Bat for Lashes kick. I just can’t seem to get Natasha Kahn’s infectious songs out of my head. Fresh out of the vault, Bat for Lashes has released the third video from ‘Two Suns’ for ‘Sleep Alone’. Kahn is by far making the greatest videos out there today. The small stories within and the overwhelming color palette that sets the perfect tone makes each song more haunting than it already is.

Bat for Lashes was also nominiated today for an MTV Video Music Award (VMA) for the Breakthrough Video catagory up against Chairlift, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Matt and Kim, Cold War Kids, Passion Pit and more. Wow that is some list.

Secondhand Sunday

We’re starting something called ‘Secondhand Sunday’ around here. To give you a brief overview, basically we are digging back in the vaults of indie music videos from years ago. These can be as old as say, a Sloan video from 1992 or as recent as an Of Montreal video from 2005. Its all about remembering those great songs that some of us have forgotten. A blast from the past if you will.

To start off our first Secondhand Sunday, we are posting a video of Phantom Planet’s ‘California’.  Lately I personally have been on a PP kick, going back listening to their older stuff as well as getting into Jason Schwartzman’s most recent project as Coconut Records. When I first saw the video for ‘California’ I remember it was right when our Cable company started giving MTV2 out for free. This is also a time when MTV2 actually played nothing but music videos. The tune was in heavy rotation at the time and I couldn’t get enough of it. It is one of the defining songs of my college years.
