Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Reissue Broom And Hint At Exciting New Developments

SXSW

We couldn’t be called Modern Mystery Blog without keeping you up to date with all news from Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, especially when there is so much they’ve just announced:

1. Their first album Broom was reissued on white vinyl for Record Store Day! I know that was a little bit ago now, and there were only 500 copies made but you may still have a chance of snatching a copy if you check with your local record store!

2. Their video for “Sink/Let It Sway” was only just released and the band has already said they were working on another video! They haven’t said which song it will accompany but they have said that “It might have more stunts” than their latest release…

Watch “Sink/Let It Sway” below to get an idea of what to prepare for:

3. Maybe the most important news item for the die-hard fans: their rarities album should be out in August!

The band will also be touring some more soon but those dates have not yet been disclosed. In the meantime, they have a few dates left on their tour with the Minnesota band Koo Koo Kanga Roo.

Here are their upcoming tour dates:

5/02 –  South Orange, NJ @ Seton Hall University

5/03 –  Brooklyn, NY @ The Rock Shop

Tom Vek Announces His Return!

Listening to Tom Vek’s first album We Have Sound was one of the first instances in my life when I thought, “I want to write about this. This is so good.” For some reason, I never did get to write my awesome review, but now that after five long years, Tom Vek is returning with a new album, if it’s as good (or better) than his first, I might get the opportunity. Leisure Seizure will be released on June 7th on Downtown/Coop USA/Island Records. It was put together during a 3 year set-up period that was followed by a 2 year stretch of musical output. To record it, Vek found a suitable studio space in east London, and set up PALLET Recording Studios.

All this effort seems to have paid off. I don’t want to get ahead of myself here but the first excerpt we have from the new album, a song called “A Chore,” sounds pretty good to me. The video for it, directed by Ollie Evans, is also fun: its retro feel recalls Glenn O’Brien’s show TV Party and BBC’s Desert Island Discs and shows Vek in great form. Figure out what you think about it by watching below!

Ponytail Unleash “Honey Touches” Video On Unsuspecting Fruit

The manic Ponytail have released a video for “Honey Touches,” the first single on their third LP, Do Whatever You Want All The Time, out this week.  Fruit is the theme here — whether it’s being caved in, roundhouse kicked, blended, chopped, splayed, punched, dropped, bisected, or moved telekinetically…  but never eaten.   There’s no reason to the madness, and not enough karate styles to vanquish all the fruity foes.  They even throw some bacon in the mix.  Check it out over at SPIN.  Direction credits go to Bill Benz and Mike Giambra, or MENZ for short.

Young Prisms Premiere New Video

Most quotes praising Young Prisms include the words “Psychedelic,” “no-fi” (or “lo-fi,”), refer to the washed-out guitars and mention the band’s sunny Californian origins. All these words come together in the band’s latest video for their song off Friends For Now on Kanine Records, “Breathless,” which premiered this week on Altered Zones. Initially shot by Andrew Creighton, the first draft of the video was brought to Denver to director Trevor Peterson, of Woodsman, who shot added more visuals. Watching this video feels like on long look into a big rocking kaleidoscope.

Experience it for yourself. Watch the video for “Breathless” below:

And if watching that video made you want to experience this dizzying experience live, you can! They’ve been touring the US and will be on the road until the end of April with the Fresh & Onlys and Crocodiles on a few dates.

Vandaveer Show Off “The Nature of Our Kind” Video

David Thomas of Pere Ubu once said, “Rock music is mostly about moving big black boxes from one side of town to the other in the back of your car.”  In Vandaveer’s new video for “The Nature of Our Kind,” they manage to make the most out of those treks across town, continuing to play even in between venues.  It’s a hummable, yet safe tune with little substance — hopefully not the case with the other tracks on their upcoming album, Dig Down Deep, out April 26 on Supply & Demand Music.   Check tour dates with Ferraby Lionheart below the video:

Junk Culture Premiere New Video, “Summer Friends”

jc

Illegal Art released Junk Culture’s album Summer Friends in February, and now, here’s is the video for the song, “Summer Friends”! It’s funny, slightly retro, colorful, just like the song and a good showcase of the one-man band that is Deepak Mantena.
