Webster’s Dictionary defines “Union Duke” as a raucous collision of alt-rock and twang, bringing crowds to their feet with songs from the heart. Soaring harmonies, driving rhythm, and infectious enthusiasm have seen these five guys from youth to young manhood. With three albums, countless festival stages, and hundreds of thousands of kilometers in the rearview, the band is excited to be touring new music, filming videos, and winning new fans everywhere they go. In the two years since their last record Golden Days, Union Duke has been steadily travelling and unravelling across the country, and they’re ready to share the lessons they’ve learned with a slate of new music. In the coming months, four new songs of love, distance, heartache and revelry will be finding their way into your ears, eyes and hearts.

“Left Behind” is exactly what you think it is: a song about leaving things behind. We were trying to capture the feeling of loneliness and isolation one can feel when they’re far from the one(s) they love – both lyrically and musically. It’s about the distance often forced between us and the longing to be together again. The last of our four newest songs produced by Jeff Hazin; “Left Behind” is the only soft-ish song of the music we’ve released over the last year and once we got in the studio with it we had the opportunity to explore some really cool ideas that are pretty new for us. It was a lot of fun building this tune and taking it from mellow and simmering to a driving banjo-driven sing-along. Plus: lapsteel! (played by our guitarist Rob McLaren),” shares the band.

Mike Marino’s bold and beautiful new record “Erosion” delights our ears today, as we head into the weekend. The latest release for Marino, somehow he manages to outdo himself once again.
Throughout the record, the songs are filled with strong guitar licks and harmonious, lush vocals that make the album come to life. Standout tracks on the album include “It’s About Time” and “Nothing Is Free,” which helps to give the scope of the record as a whole. His songwriter is honest and heartfelt, as you can tell the release is a true labor of love; it shows. The insightful lyricism and bold instrumentation help to make “Erosion” an instant classic; as it should be, for it is well deserved.
With no stone left un-turned, Marino brings a brilliant and unique album to the table, which has us eager for more.

Nessa’s genre-bending, breakout track “A Stitch In Time” details the redemption of a woman caught in an abusive relationship with her “drunken husband.” The track starts with an acoustic guitar which quickly fades in comparison to the very rhythmically driven bass part. The modern electric drums give the track a more mainstream vibe; however, the vocal style is clearly of the classic Celtic folk variety. Nessa continues to shatter expectations in the break-down sections of the song which feel influenced from the hip-hop universe.

Over the course of the song, Nessa takes their listener through a very detailed account of her protagonists retaliation plan of retaliating for years malignant behavior bestowed upon her. The most fascinating component of this detailed plan is her use of stereotypically “feminine” household items such as a sewing needle and thread, a rolling pin and a frying pan to carry out her redemptive blossoming. A true feminist anthem, this once docile woman who was literally falling mercy to the hand of her man, steps up and owns her power the way she best knows how – with well strategic intent and purpose.
