Darwin Deez Premieres Single and Remixes

Indie-pop singer Darwin Deez has announced his new single titled “Bad Day” will be released on January 18, 2011.  The album will subsequently be released on February 28, 2011.  “Bad Day” will be packaged with remixes – Javelin remix is below!

Tokyo Police Club Announce Additional 2011 Tour Dates with Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin


Ontario quartet, Tokyo Police Club, have good news for us Yanks, more dates. In support of their sophomore album Champ, the foursome will hit the road with and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and Two Door Cinema Club through most of January before going it alone. The album, produced by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith), has garnered serious critical acclaim for the boys’ brand of high octane, gritty pop. Everyone from NPR, The New York Times, Alternative Press, Pitchfork and Paste have given high marks to Champ.

Parlovr Releases Holiday Songs For Charity and EP


Self-proclaimed “sloppy pop” band Parlovr has announced the release of two holiday songs called “I’m Santa” and “Spike the Eggnog.”  Both songs are available by downloadin exchange for a donation of any amount.  Donations will go to www.avaaz.org. 

Their EP Heaven/Hell/Big/Love and self-titled LP is available now.  Parlovr plans to tour the US later next year.  The song “Hell, Heaven” from the EP is listed here:

Little & Ashley and Sleepy Rebels Spread Christmas Cheer


Christmas time is upon us, which for some means eggnog and carols. We here at Modern Mystery cannot supply you with eggnog, but we can give you the music to brighten up your holiday season.

Little & Ashley, whose music you’ve likely heard in commercials for Amazon’s Kindle, released a dynamite Christmas EP, entitled Winter Night, last month. The title track from that EP is currently available for free download via Amazon’s 25 Days of Christmas, as are a number of other wonderful holiday ditties.

But wait, there’s more! NY based band Sleepy Rebels also dropped a Christmas record this holiday season. The full-length LP, entitled Bah! Humbug!, is filled with original tunes worth adding to your collection. One such tune, “California Christmas,” is available for free download HERE. The band also shot a video for their song “Sweet Things,” which I’ve included below.

Bright Eyes Return to the Road


For the first time in over three years, folk rockers Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and Nathaniel Walcott will be hitting the road for a US tour. Better known as Bright Eyes, the trio will be joined on this tour by an array of talented musicians who helped put together the band’s 7th full-length release. Set for a February 15th release date, The People’s Key is sure to featured a slew of indie classics.

Jenny O’s Holiday Present For You


You may want to leave a key under the door for Santa this year, because with all the goodies he’s bringing, he just might not fit through the chimney. In his bag he’s got the latest from west-coast happy-folk darlin, Jenny O, her holiday gift, “Get Down for the Holidays,” releasing on Target’s The Christmas Gig. Do Santa’s back a favor and grab her other holiday single, “Prettiest Little Present,” for free, here.

Mixing influences from the 60’s and 70s along with her jazz-fueled hip hop and pop music, Jenny O’s new video, “Well OK, Honey” was shot with help from some friends in Humboldt County. View the video below and if you’re in the Greater Los Angeles area or looking for an excuse to get your Hollyweird on, Jenny O will be performing at the Bootleg Theater in February for four weeks.
