Two More Artists Join Third Man Records’ Blue Series

As if Jack White didn’t have enough projects with running a recording studio, juggling three bands and a family, he’s gone and taken two more bands under his production wing.

Folk-pop duo First Aid Kit and psych-rockers Dungen will both take part in Third Man Records’ Blue Series of singles releases. The singles are produced by Jack White and recorded at his Third Man Studios in Nashville. The series has featured releases from Wanda Jackson and Secret Sisters among others.

Dungen created two tracks for the series, “Oga Nasa Mum” (translates to “Eyes Nose Mouth”) and “Highway Wolf.” First Aid Kit decided to do a couple of covers, featuring Buffy Sainte-Marie’s “Universal Soldier” and the classic blues song “It Hurts Me Too.”

Both artists’ series will be available in January, the 11th for Dungen and the 18th for First Aid Kit on Third Man Records.

The Gorillaz Play Santa

Gorillaz

Some people believe that giving is better than receiving. It seems that Damon Albarn is firmly in this camp. Gorillaz fans got the gift of a brand new album for free on Christmas morning.

Nothing better than some shiny new tunes for the holidays. The album was written and recorded entirely on an iPad (a crazy feat in itself) while the band was on tour.

The band released all sorts of artwork and wallpaper for the new album on the days prior to Christmas. You should check it out, there’s probably something up there right now.

The Decemberists Frontman Looks To Broadway

The Decemberists

The Decemberists just finished a new album (The King Is Dead out on January 18th) but frontman Colin Meloy is already after bigger things.

The singer told Spin that he’d already been in contact with the director of Green Day’s American Idiot musical about penning his own show.

According to Spin, Meloy is not quite sure what the musical would be about, but he has some ideas. It will have to wait for a little while at least because the Decemberists embark on a three-month tour January 24th.

Metal Mountains Prepare Debut Album

Metal Mountains have set a date for their debut album. The album Golden Trees will be unveiled on January 25th, 2011.

Out on Amish Records, the album is described as a “minimalist psych-folk masterpiece” that combines violin, finger-picking guitar and a generous use of silence.

The members of Metal Mountain, Helen Rush, Pat Gubler and Samara Lubelski have had their hands full with Tower Recordings up until now. Alongside Matt Valentine, they make up the key components of Tower.

Look for the album Golden Trees on mp3, vinyl and CD this January on Amish Records.

Band of Horses Hit Up Austin City Limits

Band Of Horses played Austin City Limits this past October as part of the Austin City Limits festival. The performance was recorded and now has a date to air.

You can see the Grammy-nominated band on January 15th on local PBS stations. The performance is one of the last to be played on the original Austin City Limits stage and features material from all three of the band’s albums: Cease To Begin, Everything All The Time, and the Grammy-nominated Infinite Arms.

Look for Band of Horses on ACL this January. In case you haven’t heard this song (it’s been everywhere) enjoy.
