Dustin Edge To Releases New EP

After two prior releases that ventured into bluegrass and up-tempo Eastern European influences, Dustin Edge just put out his new acoustic folk EP, Calm, on January 25th. This new EP takes a whole new turn from his previous recordings and couldn’t be more appropriately named: listening to the soft and poised songs Edge crafted immediately fills you with a sense of calm. Take a listen below:

Eagle And Talon Schedule New EP For February

LA based lady rockers Eagle and Talon have announced plans for a new EP. Due out on February 22nd, In Manila represents a turning point for the band. Unlike their debut, which was comprised almost entirely of post-punk rock music, Eagle and Talon have decided to include dancier pop elements on In Manila.

From the BI/AKKA Records Press Release: “Clocking in at just under 14 minutes, In Manila covers a lot of new ground for the duo.  The exotic ride begins with the dreamy aquatic organ instrumental “I Want Everything.” Title track “In Manila” crashes in on the reverie with a propulsive beat, packing infectious hooks into a quasi-Caribbean party. “Ruen Pair” envisions the duo as Enya on Halloween, while “Modified My Knife” brings back their art-damaged guitar sound.  The EP closes with “For The Bond,” a jazz-disco anthem.”

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin/Two Door Cinema Club/Tokyo Police Club @ Terminal 5, NYC – January 21st, 2011

Our Modern Mystery favorites, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin took the stage on Friday night at Terminal 5 which was their first time being an opening band in a long time. They knew they had something to prove and they did it well. Starting with Phil Dickey on vocals for the night, the band blew the crowd away and really got the show started. Performing tracks off their new album Let It Sway their catchy indie pop hooks filled the room and had everyone in good spirits. This is a major tour for the boys and we’re proud of them!

It’s going to sound highly smug of me to say but it has to be said: I was the first person to say Two Door Cinema Club and Tokyo Police Club should tour together. In all honesty I’m not. After seeing Tokyo perform past summer with Passion Pit I (drunkenly) cornered their guitarist/keyboardist Graham Wright and demanded that they toured with Two Door Cinema Club to which he replied “Fuck! You’re the 8th person who’s told me that today!”

Fast forward to January 21st and what would you know? It actually has happened! The two acts are going on a lengthy co-headlining tour around the US and selling out shows effortlessly. To celebrate they even released a mash up of two of their tracks which can be downloaded here

The venue was packed! People of all ages and varieties. A grand highlight of the night was being in the photographers pit and looking at all the young faces. When I was younger I remember music was something you’d use as an escape and the fact these kids would call Two Door Cinema Club an escape was quite something. I personally love Northern Irish music and seeing this band do so well here in the states hit a chord with me (no pun intended). Everyone danced the night away and the band received the most cheer when they played their latest single “What You Know”

Mashup! Tokyo Police Club vs. Two Door Cinema Club

While on the same Winter tour, Tokyo Police Club took it upon themselves to give you a mashup of one of their own tracks, “Breakneck Speed”, and one of their tour mates’ – Two Door Cinema Club – “Something Good Can Work”.  The names of the track alone give a pretty good idea of what to expect from this pairing.  At little under two and a half minutes, the track opts for reckless and relentless fun – even throwing to the forefront a summery little jam.  At points, it sounds about as hectic and muddled as playing two songs at the same time can be, but it’s over before that becomes a bother.  Try this link to download.

Jesse Harris Shares Live EP from Porto Alegre

Jesse Harris recently wrapped up a South American tour, which is quite the endeavor given that fans in that sector of the globe rarely see anyone come through other than U2 or Guns n’ Roses.  Harris seemed to really enjoy a set he did in Porto Alegre, Brazil, because he’s releasing it as a live EP.  That show, back on November 18, was an intimate acoustic offering from Harris and percussionist Bill Dobrow.  It’s hard to believe the crowd could have been very large; from the sound of it, the audience was very quiet and benevolent.  Most of the time, its easy to forget this is a live recording until applause segues between tracks.  Below is a chance for you to preview three of the EP’s tracks (after sacrificing your email address), which are soothing parables told in Harris’ breathy, soft register behind sparse guitar work.  No wonder the crowd was so silent.
