Headlights Extend U.S. Tour and Hit Up CMJ

Polyvinyl darlings, Headlights have just extended their already lengthy U.S. tour for the fall. The band drops their third album, Wildlife (Polyvinyl) on October 6th and they are doing everything in their power to promote it. Recording their latest venture was not exactly easy for the band as there was a lot of turmoil which led to the departure of guitarist John Owen. The band states that Wildlife is their most personal album to date, and it’s a bit more complex. The first single, ‘Get Going’ shows just that. You can’t help but feel every emotion in singer Erin Fein’s voice. The Headlights have also announced they will be playing CMJ this year at the Polyvinyl showcase which will take place at Brooklyn’s Bell House. Sharing the bill with the band will also be Japandroids, Cale Parks and James Husband from Of Montreal. This is one CMJ show to mark on your calender.

James Husband Releases Solo Debut

James Husband is not only the multi-talented musician from Of Montreal, he has a plan of his own. Husband who has been giving previews of songs on his Myspace since, well forever it seems, will release his solo debut Parallax l via Polyvinyl who is also home to Of Montreal. It took five yers to create between touring and the band’s heightened sucess, but you would never know it. The songs blend together perfectly. Husband’s voice is dreamy on the tracks . Is it to early for it to be my favorite album of the Fall? With retro sounding guitars and the catchiest beats we’ve heard in a long time , it has the sneak peak of the album making us beg for more. The record is out October 27th and Husband will also be appearing at CMJ on October 23rd. That is one show we are surely checking out.

Also be sure to check out Polyvinyl that is reissuing Of Montreal’s Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies, Aldhils Arboretum, The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy, The Bird Who Continues to Eat the Rabbit’s Flower, and The Early Four Track Recordings. You can buy them all in one package with James Husband’s Parallax l  on pink vinyl with a bonus disc featuring six cover songs. The two will also release a split 7″ this yearas part of the Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records singles club. This will feature Of Montreal’s “Wet Butcher’s Fist” and Husband’s “A Grave in the Gravel”.

Talk about a good year!

Secondhand Sunday: Of Montreal ‘Disconnect the Dots’

All of the Of Montreal Lollapalooza and tour dates news this week has put me in the OM spirit. The band has definitely been making waves at the festival this year and all of this talk makes us jealous that we aren’t there! Today’s Secondhand Sunday features the song that started the band’s mega transformation, ‘Disconnect the Dots’.  Sure it had some heads scratching at the time but it also went along with a lot of, well, dancing. Correct is of we’re wrong but it was also the band’s first video and features the artwork of Kevin’s brother, David Barnes who also along side Kevin’s wife, Nina, does all of the artwork for the band. This was the beginning of things to come.

FEATURE: NEW SOMEONE STILL LOVES YOU BORIS YELTSIN VIDEO ‘GLUE GIRLS’

Just recieved a message from Mr. Phil Dickey of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin himself alerting us that there is a new video for ‘Glue Girls’!. The video is packed with action (you’ll see what I mean) and adds to the catalog of great and amusing SSLYBY videos.  The video is actually ‘unoffical’ as it was made by two friends of the band, Brooke and Matt for a local video competition. Kudos to them though! This is definatly their most theatric video to date. Check it out! You saw it here first!

New Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin ‘Cardinal Rules’

There has been a talk for quite some time in the Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin camp about a studio version of ‘Cardinal Rules,’ a song the band had written about their hometown minor league baseball team, The Springfield  Cardinals. The band have been playing the ever poppy tune at recent shows and it instantly became a favorite amongst fans. Will the tune be on the new record? No word on that yet, but there is word of SSLYBY working on their third record as we speak. The plans after that are to go back on tour, and we just can’t wait!
