Video: Chester French ‘She Loves Everybody’

Until about 11 o’clock last night, I had no idea who in the world Chester French was. I had heard the name before and that was about the end of our relationship. Was it a band? Was it a one man show? Is anyone named Chester besides that Sloan song circa 1998? I decided to check out Chester French out of curosity, and I’m not sure that I have ever taken to a band so quickly. Think of them as MGMT lite. Chester French is indeed a band.  I checked out the video for ‘She Loves Everybody’ and I haven’t been able to get the song out of my head since. The duo of Maxwell Drummey and D.A. Wallach met at Harvard, named themselves after a sculptor (David Chester French), have been remixed by N.E.R.D., played SXSW and have been signed to Star Trax/Interscope Records. Phew. Chester French is definatly THE band to watch out for in 2009.

The Strokes: Alone, Together?

Everytime I hear ‘Strokes side project’ lately, I want to cringe. Though I do actually like their musical venturings outside of The Strokes, a part of me really wants them to make a new record together. Apparently they are supposed to start recording a new record by the end of this year, and it will be out next Spring. I hope so. Its been over 2 years since they released “First Impressions of Earth” and I’m going through a bit of Strokes withdrawal the past few weeks.

Currently Albert Hammond Jr. is on tour supporting his new solo record. Nikolai is working on a film and has a folk side project called ‘Nickel Eye’ and now even Fab has a side band as well. But let’s not forget the recent collaboration between NERD, Santogold and Julian Casablancas. I must say that “My Drive Thru” is super catchy and I love Casablanca’s voice in it. Pharrell Williams is also supposed to be producing the new Strokes record. Oh what a sound that will be.
