Interpol Release Free EP, Goes On Tour, Loses Dave Pajo in the Midst

Things are looking up and down for Interpol. Should we start with the bad news first? Dave Pajo who recently replaced the infamous Carlos D. last year, has just stated that he is out of the band. Pajo explained in a press release that “I’ll be taking a break from touring to focus on family. There are no personal, artistic or health reasons– it’s really as simple as that!” Though the statement on his Facebook the next day makes us think that he has something else in store for the music world as it reads “Thank you, friends, for all your kind words of support and well-wishes!!! Exciting news ahead, stay posted.” Currently Brad Truax from Soliders of Fortune who just put out a release on Mexican Summer (the same label that houses Best Coast) will be taking over bass duties for the band.

In happier news for the band, in the midst of an international tour, they have just put out a North American TourEP which also features the openers on the dates, School of Seven Bells and Matthew Dear. You can download the goodies right HERE.

Pitchfork Music Festival Announces Dates

It magically became March without giving people enough time to take notice and summer already seems palpable.  What does that mean? FESTIVALS.  The music industry is definitely embracing the cash cow that is the summer indie music festival — Coachella has evolved (devolved?) into a clusterfuck with Sasquatch!, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands and Lollapalooza in tow.  So many choices, such expensive tickets, increasingly questionable headliners…

Well, at least you know what to expect from the Pitchfork Music Festival, going down July 15-17 at Union Park in Chicago.  They haven’t announced the lineup yet, but browse their “Best New Music” page to get a general idea.

Best Coast, Destroyer, Girls, Joanna Newsom, The Radio Dept., Wavves, OFF!, Smith Westerns, Cut Copy, Das Racist, Walkmen, Curren$y, Ariel Pink, Flying Lotus, Tame Impala, Robyn, and James Blake will most likely all be there; throw in some classic post-punk acts like Mission of Burma, Gang of Four, and Wire and you have the initial lineup for the most predictable festival on the circuit.  But the best part is, this mock lineup fucking delivers. And tickets are only $45 for single-day passes and $110 for three-day passes.  Throw in delicious food from local eateries, a full record store, and various local art, clothes, and trinkets for a well-rounded Chicago experience.  Tickets go on sale this Friday, so if this all sounds appealing, schedule! transfer funds! make travel plans!

Best Coast Teams Up With I Can Has Cheezburger

Video: Best Coast: "Crazy for You"

For most of us, LOLcats ran its course a couple of years ago. For Best Coast, the fun is just getting started!

In a new video for the song “Crazy for You” (off of their debut album) the band play in a studio run by loud, bossy kittens. They serve “Teaz” and “Coffeez” and there is liberal use of catnip.

You can watch the video below, brought to you by…I Can Has Cheezburger.
