Pepper Rabbit, “Murder Room”

Introduced the other day on Stereogum, “Murder Room” is a new song from LA’s Pepper Rabbit and the latest preview track from their new album, Red Velvet Snowball, which came out August 9th, on Kanine Records.  Penned by Xander Singh and described as the most straightforward pop song he’s ever written, “Murder Room” talks that talk and walks that walk.  There’s not much else to say about it: hot potato synth, hot potato drums, and some pretty harmonies.  Nothing in the song is sustained, it just bounces along, proud of its poppiness. You can look forward to hearing it live on Pepper Rabbit’s Fall tour with Calgary art-rock group, BRAIDS.

OK Go Meet The Muppets

With The Muppets slated for release in November, Disney is slowly trying to reintegrate the iconic band of puppets into the mainstream. They began running teasers for the film this past spring and on Tuesday they released Muppets: The Green Album, a collection of some of the Muppets biggest songs performed by some of today’s biggest acts.

OK Go were tasked with the responsibility of recording what is perhaps the Muppets most widely known tune, “The Muppet Show Theme Song.” Written by Jim Henson and Sam Pottle, the song opened and closed The Muppet Show for five seasons in the UK and US, from 1976-1981.

Down below, you can check out the newly released music video for OK Go’s take on the song. And then, set your DVR’s for the quartet’s August 31st performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  You’re not going to want to miss this as the band will be joined by some very, very special friends.

Catch CASEY SHEA with TALLY HALL & APRIL SMITH and the GREAT PICTURE SHOW, FRIDAY NIGHT @ Bowery Ballroom

One of our brand new favorites, Casey Shea, is heading to the Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night, Friday, August 19th. What is to be one hell-of-a-show, Shea will be performing on the line up with Tally Hall and April Smith and the Great Picture Show.

A little bit of southern charm, the New York by way of New Orleans singer-songwriter is set to release his third record, In Your Head, on Family Records, October 11th.

Influenced by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, BEck, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, you know Shea has a good musical head on his shoulders.

Being no stranger to the music world, Shea has been a member of several bands, pop, rock and soul alike, bringing his sound on the road.

The Duke & The King was formed by Simone Felice of the Felice Brothers and Bobbie “Bird” Burke. With the good Felice name on it, you know it’s a winner.

Their new album entitled Long Live The Duke & The King, the album captures the band’s essence, a ramshackle travelling circus in which different voices tell different stories. Felice and Burke remain the central architects, but it’s a more collaborative project than its predecessor. Haskins’ gospel-tinged lead vocal on ‘Hudson River’ recalls the greats of classic R&B, while ‘No Easy Way Out’ combines Stone’s vintage soulful tones with a pop-orientated country rock sound that matches Felice’s light-hearted description of the band’s new sound as “Fleetwood Black.” Elsewhere, the band’s collective voices often flourish in the ether before dramatically taking centre-stage, notably on ‘Shine On You’, while ‘Shaky’ represents the most compelling example of the band’s progression from their debut album.
