Weezer To Release Pinkerton Deluxe

Although initially tagged as a disappointment upon release in 1996, Weezer’s Pinkerton has enjoyed an almost unanimous change of heart.

Rolling Stone felt obligated to go back and re-review the CD in 2004, upping the initial 3-star review (out of a possible 5) to…5 stars. Meanwhile, Spin ranked it in the top hundred albums of 1985-2000 and Guitar World ranks it in the top hundred guitar albums of all time.

So you could say the second opinion of the album has been a little more favorable.

Now Weezer has decided to re-release this suddenly popular album with a complete second disc’s worth of unreleased material, out on November 2nd.

The Pinkerton-Deluxe set is a two-disc set with B-sides, unreleased tracks, live tracks and (duh) the original album itself. A Weezer fan could not ask for more.

Members Of The Oblivians, The Ettes Team Up For New Album

Greg Cartwright(the Oblivians, Compulsive Gamblers) and Coco Hames (the Ettes, Coco Motion) had an idea. They would each record a song and release it as a split-45.

That idea has blossomed into a whole album, featuring guest spots by members of the Black Keys and the Raconteurs.

“”I thought, I’d write a song, Greg would write a song, we’d record them together, and that would be that,” says Hames.  “Luckily Greg’s prolific awesome switch was on, and we got this whole record instead.”

Recorded under the name the Parting Gifts, the album (The Strychnine Dandelion) features contributions by Dan Auerbach (the Black Keys) and Patrick Keeler (the Raconteurs, the Greenhornes).

You can find it on store shelves and online (of course) November 9th. Luckily for you, we also have one of the tracks available right now! You can hear “Keep Walkin” right here.

Rewards Going On Tour

pfenningBreaking out on his own and showing off his musical solo prowess is Aaron Pfenning.

Known for co-founding Chairlift, Aaron Pfenning is performing under the moniker Rewards and will be going on tour, opening for Brandon Flowers this fall.

Pfenning’s new music takes a dark tone for listeners as he experiments with different inspiratins and plays every instrument. Pfenning will be debuting some of his new material for his upcoming album during his fall tour.

He will be teaming up with Flowers in Europe and We Are Scientists back in the States for a full tour.

Introducing Paper Crows


Meet Emma Panas and Duncan McDougall. This London based duo has put a very unique spin on the idea of a two-piece band. The anticipated drum/guitar/vocal that you would expect from such a group does not even begin to explain the complex sound created by these two. With the clashing of elegant tones and dark electronic rhythms, The Paper Crowes definitely provide us something to look forward to.

“Stand Alight,” the bands debut single is due for release on October 11th and tour dates are most likely on their way. The band has just begun playing very popular live shows in and around the London area and will hopefully be coming to the states soon.  They are currently in the process of recording their first album but you can listen to the single right here!

The Dandy Warhols To Tour This Fall

t.d.wThe Dandy Warhols have just spent the summer supporting their latest album, the compilation called The Capitol Years: 1995-2007 and they have no plans to stop just yet.

The band will be heading to the land down under for a tour before coming back to the States. The tour will take the band all over the country, even taking them back to Portland’s Satyricon, the club where the band got their start back in 1994.

The compilation album was released back in July and features the best 14-tracks from when the band was on Capitol Records and even features a brand new exclusive song.

Make sure that you catch this awesome performance as they come through your town.
