Domino Records Reintroduces Elliott Smith

Omaha born Elliot Smith released his first album, Roman Candle, in 1994. Almost immediately, critics began to notice the singer-songwriter’s unique take on love and loss. For the better part of the next decade, Smith remained a folk-rock fixture. Yet, throughout that period, he dealt with thoughts of suicide and bouts of depression.

On October 21, 2003, Smith passed away from a fatal stab wound. His death remains shrouded in mystery, though it was officially ruled a suicide by the coroner. Since then, two full length albums of material have been released by Smith’s former label Domino Records.

On November 2, 2010 Domino issued a third post posthumous release, entitled An Introduction to… Elliot Smith. An Introduction to… is, as the title suggests, intended to introduce Smith to a new generation. AOL Spinner is currently streaming the album HERE, or you can purchase it HERE.

Grandchildren Add Dates To US Tour And Premiere “Saturn Returns” Remix

Grandchildren, led by citizen of the world Aleks Martray, have added new dates to their tour supporting their album Everlasting, out now on Green Owl. One of these additional dates will see them share the bill with The Coathangers and most importantly, they will perform at the first annual Tell All Your Friends showcase at Brooklyn, NY’s Glasslands on November 11th. You can check the rest of their stops below.

And because they like to do things correctly, this news comes with a little present: a remix of their song “Saturn Returns” by the Brooklyn duo Runaway. In this reinterpretation, the song resembles tripped out old school electronic music similar to what I imagine you would hear if you took your old Game boy to a smoky club. Check it out:

Cage The Elephant Drop Release Date, Tracklist for New LP

Cage the Elephant are looking to avoid the sophomore slump by releasing what could be viewed as a potential sophomore celebration.  The band will drop Thank You, Happy Birthday on Jive Records January 11, 2011 (that’s a lot of 1’s).  Cage has been touring pretty much non-stop for the last two years off the success of their debut LP, but finally found time to hit the studio in Nashville, TN with producer Jay Joyce.  Based on listed influences for the writing of the album, which include The Pixies, Mudhoney, The Butthole Surfers, and Dylan and Lennon interviews, it should be fairly raw both melodically and lyrically.  The band has mentioned an expanding of their sound to encompass a broader range of emotion, meaning they’ve refined how they tone things down too.

The band is releasing a hinting 7″, “Shake Me Down”/”Aberdeen” on Record Store Day’s “Black Friday,” November 26, so be sure to support music in hard copy form and get a preview of the new album.  Tracklisting is below:

  1. Always Something
  2. Aberdeen
  3. Indy Kidz
  4. Shake Me Down
  5. 2024
  6. Sell Yourself
  7. Rubber Ball
  8. Right Before My Eyes
  9. Tangled
  10. Sabertooth Tiger
  11. Japanese Buffalo
  12. Flow
  13. Shiver
