Generationals – “Trust” EP

Generationals is a spunky little trio out of New Orleans that this past summer went out to Austin, Texas to lay down the four tracks I’ve come to own as the Trust EP. Generationals has been Grant Widmer and Ted Joyner, joined now by drummer and back up vocalist Tess Brunet. Recorded this past August, the EP starts out with “Carrying the Torch”, a poppy bass riff that spins off into an almost indie take on the classic new wave hit “Melt With You.” A tightly loose danceable affair with some light strings in the back round to really make all the tracks blend seamlessly.

“Say For Certain” grooves along organically from the start, pulsing and clicking. A sparse yet melodically decorated tune with some lyrics that definitely got into my head. The syncopation is viral and feels over too soon. “Trust” is another thumping groover with a surfer bend. The song is a mellow poppy jingle that chugs with a beachy sunny sound. I can see the song taking over radiowaves soon, and it is the EP’s title track with good reason, it’s highly infectious. “Victim of Trap” is an excellent closer for many reasons. One being it is a hypnotic, textured, and challenging track that is very welcome after three almost upfront post-pop tunes. The band really builds on each track and it makes me very excited for anything they’re planning on putting down in the studio soon.

The Trust EP is available on the iTunes store now for only $1.99.

Internet Stops For New OK Go Video

A brand new video premiered this morning from internet darlings OK Go. You’ve seen them dancercise in “A Million Ways”, show of their prized pooches in “White Knuckles” and this year alone wrack up UK Video Music Awards for “Best Rock Video” and “Best Video of the Year” with their mind boggling Rube Goldberg machine making “This Too Shall Pass”. Today they released their first ‘animated’ video for the tune “Last Leaf’.

In partnership with Samsung, the band “ expressed interest in working with Nadeem Mazen and Ali Mohammad, founders of Serious Business Design, on an animation idea they’d been dreaming up, and after some dialogue, Samsung turned OK Go loose with its latest innovation in premium camera technology, the Samsung NX100 camera. Each second of the video is a sequence of fifteen Samsung NX100 photographs, which OK Go, shot with Mazen, Mohammad and a crew of interns.” The video is premiering via Myspace and at www.okgo.net/lastleaf. The band will be appearing on ‘The Today Show’ premiering a video starring them with the Today Show’s Hosts on November 18th. Cloud Nothings Release New Single, “Understand At All”

Cloud Nothings just came out with a dreamy new song. The band started only a year ago with Dylan Baldi making lo-fi rock out of his parent’s basement outside of Cleveland. In the past year Cloud Nothings has released an EP, singles and made their way on tour coast to coast. Not bad for only a year on their own. “Understand It All” is from Cloud Nothings first self-titled full length, produced by Baltimore’s Chester Gwazda, known for his work with Dan Deacon and Future Islands.

Recorded at the home of Wham City, Baltimore’s Copycat Building, the scratchy catchy tune makes me desperately want to escape on a European holiday to see them with Les Savy Fav in Amsterdam on their upcoming tour. Dylan Baldi records all the tracks by his lonesome so let’s hope the live band keeps up the great energy. “Cloud Nothings” is released January 25th, 2011.
