Sunglasses Remix “Keepaway” and Head Off on Tour

Sunglasses are a pair of Art and Design school musicians who serendipitously came across a music career.  The two initially worked together on a student film and found the collaboration so enjoyable that decided to take on music as their next project.  As of late, 8000 bam bam (Samuel Cooper) & Baby Seal (Brady Keehn) have already released  their first self-titled EP and booked a decent tour covering the eastern half of the States.

Sunglasses recently lent their talent and expertise (Baby Seal majored in Sound Design) to reworking Keepaway’s “100.”  The result is an aquatic jam that bubbles over and struts around with swagger despite the seemingly melancholy line, “I just hope you think of me when you get high.”  It’s a rousing mix of Merriweather Post Pavillion and Air France.  Listen below:

Tennis Sign To Fat Possum and Prepare Debut LP

The duo from Denver that make up Tennis have been getting a lot of internet love this past year, so it’s unbelievable to find that not only have they not released an album, but it won’t be out until January 2011.  Hoping to not get outpaced by their own hype, Tennis seem to be going down the appropriate indie rock checklist at the moment:
release a 7″, shows, another 7″, more shows, internet acclaim, tour, sign to an accredited label…. and album.

If you’re wondering “what tour?” and “what accredited label?”  The answers are dates with The Walkmen and Japandroids, and Fat Possum.   If you still feel the need to figure this band out a little more before committing to a $8-$15 ticket, here is a link to the always lovely Daytrotter session they were featured on.

Metric Lend Score to a Christopher Mills Short Film

Scoring short films with your songs is totally going to replace the music video.  It’s not like music videos make it onto television anymore anyway.

Regardless, Metric have provided their track “Collect Call” from Fantasies as the score for the Christopher Mills short film of the same name.  The film is a lot like the song actually — there seems to be a lot going on throughout, but at the end it’s difficult to find something memorable to take out of it.  The film’s style is definitley unique, and features 2D pallbearers and the constellation version of Emily Haines.

Wakey!Wakey! Announce Tour With Jenny Owen Youngs

Back on September 16th on their website, Wakey!Wakey! announced that they would be touring with a dear friend, Jenny Owen Youngs in November, giving dates and all, but they were still looking to give the tour a name.  Well, the verdict is in and the Dance So Good Tour is scheduled to hit the biggest city near you, including you Canadian fans.  Wakey!Wakey! will be playing their first show up north in Toronto, which is a little more normal than just having your first smore

The Klaxons Get All Stripped Down at the Bowery Electric

The Klaxons are a hectic outfit known for their brash, energetic live performances and winning a Mercury Prize.  The group are among the best contemporary reincarnations of post punk/new wave, but they want to prove that there’s a melody going on underneath it all.  Back on Spetember 20th, The Klaxons played an all-acoustic set at the Bowery Electric.  The performance was a part of music site BaebleMusic’s The Guest Apartment series, and it found the band stripping down yet refining their vocals, especially.  Anyways, harmonies abound, the band played an impressive, 8-song set that you can view on Baeble’s fancy new player HERE.

The Henry Clay People Guest on NBC’s “Parenthood”

At the onset of the summer, The Henry Clay People put out their second record, Somewhere on the Golden Coast, which has garnered comparisons to Pavement, The Replacements, and The Hold Steady — not bad company.  They are taking their own style of 70s barrock on the road this October in a mostly headlining tour that will see them open a date or two for the Drive-By Truckers.  If you think you have them figured out by now, I bet you couldn’t guess the band will be appearing on the October 5th episode of NBC’s Parenthood, called “Date Night.”  Don’t get too excited, it’s probably going to be one of those 3-second intro shots of a bar after commercial, but hey, it’s national television. Good for them.
