Asobi Seksu Add Tour Dates With White Lies and Sun Airway

Asobi Seksu have announced a couple more tour dates, in case anyone got left out of the first round. This time, the group will be accompanied by Sun Airways and White Lies.

The band is still reveling in the positive critical glow that followed the release of their fourth album, Fluorescence, which came out February 15th via Polyvinyl. The album showcased the band’s familiar song and ever-growing songwriting skills.

Hermes Release Two New Singles in April

Hermes, a group of young English chaps from the small town of Cirencester are fresh on the scene with a double A side, “Anyone Who Cares / More Love In Death” available on April 25.

“Anyone Who Cares” shares upbeat instrumentation with self conscious lyrics like “I wouldn’t know the truth if it hit me/ Wouldn’t know love until it bit me.” The synth line sparkles, the buildup to the chorus is adrenalin charging and everything culminates once the chorus sets in. The echoing backup vocals compliment the lead’s in this well rounded track.

“More Love in Death” features steady, perfectly subtle drums that is the driving beat throughout the song. The liberating message of this song, emphasized by the repeating lyric “You can let go,” is blanketed under a softer, more forlorn feeling evoked from the music and vocal style. “Anyone Who Cares” and “More Love in Death” are two distinct and significantly different tracks, when juxtaposed balance each other and show the range of capabilities from this young band.

Judging from these new singles, Hermes sounds like they’d out on an awesome live show, so let’s hope they tour the US in the near future.

Artists pull together tracks for ‘Benefit for the Recovery in Japan” Comp

This should have just been a post about an honest humanitarian effort pulled together by some fantastic independent artists to raise money in response to the devastation in Japan.  Instead, artist Sadek Bazaraa missed the fact that the cover of the Benefit for the Recovery in Japan (above) looks unmistakably akin to a Pokéball.

Fortunately, the seriousness of the tragic event and this compilation’s good intentions merit a pardon of the artwork’s inadvertent mockery, so focus more on the music.   That should be easy, considering contributions from Grouper, Akron/Family, School of Seven Bells, Bradford Cox, Bear In Heaven, Nat Baldwin, and Fennesz — and especially when considering comparison to this abortion of a compilation.  “Shelter from the Storm”? Really?

100% of the proceeds from album sales will go to Civic Force, a Japanese non-profit, on-the-ground relief organization founded after the Niigata Earthquake in 2004.  The album clocks in at nearly 5 HOURS of music, so take a read over the tracklist below and download the album for a helpful $15 toward the relief effort.
