The Libertines Reunite for Reading and Leeds Festival 2010

Though we’re not sure why it’s happening, The Libertines are set to reunite for the upcoming Reading and Leeds festival this year in Europe. The band has spent quite a time apart since Pete Doherty and Carl Barat hated each other, for a lack of better words. Now they’re heading back into action, away from all their recent projects, and onto the stage together. Though this reunion has the ability to be pretty amazing if everyone has their act together, if it actually gets to the stage in the first place then it will be just as amazing.

The festival takes place from August 27th to August 29th and features an amazing lineup of bands from Arcade Fire, to Modest Mouse to We Are Scientists. Limp Bizkit is also playing the fest. Yea, we’re just going to pretend that it’s not really happening. Take a look below for the list of all the performers that will be playing alongside The Libertines.

Josh Ottum “It’s Alright”

There has been a buzz about singer/songwriter Josh Ottum for quite a while now. Known for being a little wacky and also having a stockpile of his own songs. Finally it is time for him to share them all with the world. Ottum will release his highly anticipated debut record Like the Season (Cheap Lullaby) on October 21st.  For his first record he’s already pulling out some big names. Appearing on the album is James McAlister (Sufjan Stevens) Casey Foubert (Pedro the Lion, Sufjan Stevens) and engineer Jon Ervie (Modest Mouse). The first single “It’s Alright” shows his influences new and old from Randy Newman and Stevie Wonder to Phoenix and Ben Folds. Check out the tune below!

Modest Mouse ‘Guilty Cocker Spaniels’

Modest Mouse, oh has it been that long since we’ve heard from you last? It seems like it. The band has just released the first single off thier upcoming record ‘No One’s First And You’re Next ‘ titled ‘Satellite Skin’, but the band has now released the B-side of the vinyl single ‘Guilty Cocker Spaniels’.  The single will be out on vinyl, limited edition of 4,000 copies, on May 26th. Try and get your hands on it. ‘Guilty Cocker Spaniels’ is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs by the band…maybe its because I have a cocker spaniel.

The Shins to Release New Record

Its been quite some time since we’ve gotten a new record from The Shins, but they’re back. James Mercer and Co. are on the brink of releasing a new album but things have certainly changed. For one, the band will release the album on Mercer’s own label, Aural Apothecary, having split with their former label Sub Pop.  Mercer also let two of the original members go, keyboardist Marty Crandall and drummer Jesse Sandoval, stating that he wanted to take the band in a new direction. ‘I started to have production ideas that I wanted to do that basically required some other people,’ Mercer recently told Pitchfork.

The guys have been replaced by Joe Plummer of Modest Mouse and Ron Lewis from The Fruit Bats. Man, seems like a rough day to be in The Shins. Though the band is currently doing a few tour dates, the new album still won’t be released until early next year. Mercer describes the new songs as very ‘up tempo’ and less depressing than their other records. I guess some good did come out of this.
