New MGMT Video, ‘Kids’, Remix Violens

Super hipsters MGMT have finally released a video for their ever catchy song, ‘Kids’ and I’m not sure if it could be any weirder. As some may recall there was that, well awkward, homemade video that has been posted on Youtube for the past year of the song, but now the band has made it official.  The rumor is that it took months to make. MGMT appears only briefly in the video wrapped in silver and with face paint, and yes, that is Joanna Newsom making an appearance. Chances are the kid in the video will need therapy, especially since he had to appear with those creepy monsters.

MGMT has also just remixed Violen’s ‘Doomed’ which is a nice touch since the band remixed MGMT’s ‘Time to Pretend’ a while ago. This is certainly something worth downloading.

Major Organ and the Adding Machine FINALLY Being Released

FINALLY ‘Major Organ and the Adding Machine’ is  set to be released! This is a huge project if you are a fan of indie music, most notebly the Elephant 6 Collective. The film which stars nearly most of the E6ers will be out this fall via Orange Twin Records. Previews were given during the winter season during the E6 tour holiday tour that took place. Getting a glimpse of the preview, I can’t imagine how amazing the rest of the film will be. Spacey? Yes, certainly but we wouldn’t have it any other way. The film stars everyone from Kevin Barnes from Of Montreal, along with brother and artist David Barnes,  to Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum. The dvd will be packed with the Major Organ cd that was released in 2001 and was a side project of Mangum and Julian Koster who is in The Music Tapes.

Wavves ‘So Bored’, Acoustic

I think of Wavves as the baby brother band of MGMT. As odd as that may or may not sound to some of you, you have to admit they have the same vibe.  Recently TheyShootMusic.com from Austria, has filmed the band playing ‘So Bored’ amongst a few others, acoustically. It really lets the listener get more of the song in my opinion. Stripped down and raw is the only way to describe it.  Wavves are getting big, huh?

Wavves are currently on tour with a stop at the Bowery Ballroom in late June. Check out their tourdates HERE

Of Montreal Get Unplugged (Again) and Cover The Beatles

As much as I adore Of Montreal’s new songs in their original form, there is something about the feeling of Kevin Barnes and BP Helium performing the songs acoustically. We’ve been seeing this for a while from the band, as they are no strangers to these kind of performances. Every song they strip down just seems so beautiful and raw.  Barnes and Helium have stopped by 89.7 WTMD and 90.7 WFUV (New York shoutout, what?) on the current tour to provide us with great versions of ‘Beware Our Nubile Miscreants’, a new song ‘Coquet Coquet’ and a cover of The Beatles ‘I’m So Tired.’  Of Montreal, is there no end to your greatness?

On a side note, I seem somewhat distracted by BP’s new moustache. Who isn’t?

New York City Popfest 2009

Its getting on that time of year again when the NYC Popfest invades the area. The lineup, like past years, is nothing less than awesome. The event takes place from Thursday May 14 to Sunday May 17th, which ends as an all day event at NYC’s Cake Shop (we love that place!).

Amongst the bands performing this year are Casper and the Cookies, Pants Yell!, Burning Hearts, The Icicles, The Radio Dept., Boy Genius and more. The Friday night show at Don Hill’s and the Saturday night show at the Bell House will also have an ‘Indie Dance Party’ after the bands play. Hey, even us indie folks have to dance sometimes, right?

We’ve already got our tickets and are most excited about seeing Georgia’s own Casper and the Cookies on Sunday night. Little factoid for you; Jason Nesmith the singer and guitarist of Casper used to play in Of Montreal.

And speaking of Casper and the Cookies, if you want to be involved with something exciting that afternoon send us a message or comment. We could use your help. Its going to be an afternoon of filming fun. (secret for now but we’ll let it out eventually!)

Lollapalooza 2009, We Want to Go There

Lollapalooza’s 2009 lineup has recently been announced, and with 130 bands, it leaves little room to complain. Start saving up now for August’s shows in Chicago which includes such bands as Of Montreal, Kings of Leon, Beastie Boys, Cold War Kids, The Killers, TV on the Radio, Andrew Bird, Vampire Weekend, Decemberists, Neko Case, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Chairlift, Los Campesinos!, Crystal Castles, Santogold and so many more.  This is perhaps the best Lolla lineup we’ve ever seen.

The tickets run about $190 for all 3 days. Pretty sweet deal if you ask us. See you there hopefully!
