Calvin Harris Remixes Passion Pit

I think the title says it all. Calvin Harris recently remixed Passion Pit’s ‘The Reeling’ and the only reaction that can explain this is ‘WOW’. Combining two of the current hottest musical forces Harris manages to give a whole new life to this Passion Pit song….just when you didn’t think one of their songs could possibly get any better.  Giving the song a little softer tone and a brilliant into bassline I can only imagine what would happen if these guys made a record together.

Passion Pit is currently on tour so don’t forget to check them out in your city! Tour dates can be found at their Myspace.

Modest Mouse ‘Guilty Cocker Spaniels’

Modest Mouse, oh has it been that long since we’ve heard from you last? It seems like it. The band has just released the first single off thier upcoming record ‘No One’s First And You’re Next ‘ titled ‘Satellite Skin’, but the band has now released the B-side of the vinyl single ‘Guilty Cocker Spaniels’.  The single will be out on vinyl, limited edition of 4,000 copies, on May 26th. Try and get your hands on it. ‘Guilty Cocker Spaniels’ is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs by the band…maybe its because I have a cocker spaniel.

Bound Stems, ‘Happens to Us All Otherwise’

In the past 24 hours, I have become completely obsessed with the Chicago five piece called The Bound Stems. A band that I have discovered on an itunes Podcast of all things. Its really easy to become increasingly interested in this band, which I hate to say, broke up last year after their second release ‘The Family Afloat.’ Sad to say the least, but the band played Lollapalooza, Daytrotter, and South by Southwest amongst other things. Disbanded or not, this is a band worth listening to. It reminds me a bit of Conor Oberst if he started writing really happy songs all the time.

New York City Popfest 2009

Its getting on that time of year again when the NYC Popfest invades the area. The lineup, like past years, is nothing less than awesome. The event takes place from Thursday May 14 to Sunday May 17th, which ends as an all day event at NYC’s Cake Shop (we love that place!).

Amongst the bands performing this year are Casper and the Cookies, Pants Yell!, Burning Hearts, The Icicles, The Radio Dept., Boy Genius and more. The Friday night show at Don Hill’s and the Saturday night show at the Bell House will also have an ‘Indie Dance Party’ after the bands play. Hey, even us indie folks have to dance sometimes, right?

We’ve already got our tickets and are most excited about seeing Georgia’s own Casper and the Cookies on Sunday night. Little factoid for you; Jason Nesmith the singer and guitarist of Casper used to play in Of Montreal.

And speaking of Casper and the Cookies, if you want to be involved with something exciting that afternoon send us a message or comment. We could use your help. Its going to be an afternoon of filming fun. (secret for now but we’ll let it out eventually!)

Pavement Due to ‘Brighten The Corners’, Again.

Pavement will always be a very dear band to me. When I was about 12 years old, I remember getting glimpses of them on 120 Minutes if I was lucky. 120 Minutes was on so after my bedtime that I had to sneak downstairs to watch it. Pavement were frequently played, and I remember being in love with a certain song that still remains to be one of my favorites until this day…”Shadey Lane.”  I did my best to find ‘Brigthen the Corners’ in my little suburban mall, and to my surprise, they had it. I played that cd to no end.

To me, Pavement is the essential indie rock band. They are what got me into music. They are what made me in love with music. Stephen Malkmus was my first musician crush. They were my first party band. I’m not sure where I would be if I never discovered Pavement, or where a lot of us reading this would be.

Matador is reissuing ‘Brighten the Corners” due out November 11th, filled with b-sides, compiliations, outtakes, etc. This is beyond exciting. Its kind of sad though that after this, all that is left to reissue in deluxe edition is ‘Terror Twilight.’ Hint Pavement: Reunite because you were awesome….and so I don’t have to stalk Mark Ibold at Stephen Malkmus shows and giggle ‘haha IBOLD!’ to my friends.

Check out one of my other favorite songs off of ‘Brighten the Corners’, ‘Stereo’. Look for the squirrel….
