Of Montreal Say ‘Ninjas Prove It.’

Today is a short post. I am off to see Of Montreal in a matter of hours and given, I’m super excited. Though the tour has only started and I’ve already heard and seen some really great things about the ‘Ninjas Prove It’ tour. Of Montreal is one of the most theatrical and artsy performers you’ll ever see. The band is also so tight lately live it’s incredible. Here is a video of the band performing ‘Id Engager’ from the North Carolina show this week. Enjoy!

Miniature Tigers “Cannibal Queen”

As you know by now, one thing that amuses me the most is hillarious videos by stellar indie rock bands. The Miniature Tigers are currently reigining as the champion of the year with their new video for ‘Cannibal Queen.’ I’m unsure why but this video seems like it could be a story plot on ‘My Name is Earl.’ The video features actor Derek Mears, who will be playing Jason in the upcoming ‘Friday the 13th’ movie. ‘Cannibal Queen’ is one my favorite tracks off of ‘Tell It To The Volcano’ which you can buy digitally now but the physical release will not be out until Early 2009. The Miniature Tigers are another example of the great harmonic indie pop that has been coming out lately. I just can’t seem to get enough.

The Miniature Tigers are starting doing some East Coast dates including 2 stops at CMJ. I can’t wait to check them out live. Head over to their myspace for more songs, info and tourdates Miniature Tigers

Spinto Band “Summer Grof”

Words cannot fully describe my love for the Spinto Band. I first came across the Spinto Band when someone was throwing out a copy of their vinyl single for ‘Oh Mandy’ a couple years back. The cover drew me in immediatly, the name was pretty familar, so I offered to take it off of their hands. Still to this day i’m not sure why you would throw out a Spinto Band record. The band just released ‘Moonwink’ yesterday, and in my opinion the record lives up to their prior releases. Infectious harmonies, brilliant melodies and dreamy lyrics fill the album and lets you remember why you love the band in the first place. They’re simple but amazing.

Langhorne Slim “Restless”

Over the past few months I have heard the name Langhorne Slim more than any other. The name really grabs your attention at first. It makes you want to find out what the deal with this guy is, right? Then you hear Langhorne Slim and the War Eagles, and it blows your mind. Slim is almost like a mixture of Ryan Adams during the Whiskeytown era with a dab or Elvis Perkins in Deerland and a sprinkle of Ryan Adams’ ‘Gold’. I have a few favorite tracks off of Langhorne’s album, especially the infectious ‘Diamonds and Gold’, but recently I have a new favorite growing on me, ‘Restless’. If you missed their performance on Letterman, I suggest you go and check it out. Its really something brilliant. It gives you a whole new appreciation to the song.

Langhorne Slim is on an extensive tour including two stops in New York City. This Friday 10/10 at the Bowery at Saturday 10/11 at The Williamsburg Music Hall. If you’re in the area, I urge you to check out Langhorne in concert. It will blow your mind.

Stephen Malkmus “Gardenia”

I finally caved in and brought the new Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks record, ‘Real Emotional Trash.’ I am especially in love with the super happy track, ‘Gardenia’. I always wish I was lucky enough to be part of one Malkmus release. At my time at Matador I was never lucky enough to be there when the Jicks put out a record. I would have been in my glory. I know more about Stephen Malkmus and Pavement then he does. I must say I’m really loving the new record. It brings me back a little to old Pavement around “Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain’. The female harmonies on the track are superb. There is always a few Malkmus/Pavement tracks out there that make me feel like dancing around the room. ‘Gardenia’ wins the grand prize.

One day if you’re lucky i’ll tell you the story about the time I met Stephen Malkmus and made an ass out of myself. If you’re super lucky I’ll post the drawing of it.
