The Glass Child Releases “Who Am I.” New Album out 10/21!

Meet the breathtaking musician, Charlotte Eriksson who sings under the moniker of The Glass Child. Her newest album release I Must Be Gone And Live, Or Stay And Die is due on October 21st, and she has just dropped her single for “Who Am I” from the record.

Eriksson, a former homeless teen, has started her own record label Broken Glass Records, released 5 EPs, re-leased her critically acclaimed debut full-length ‘I’d Like To Remain A Mystery’ in February 2013, had her single ”I Will Lead You Home” reaching #2 on theSwedish iTunes-chart, was names Breakthrough Indie Artist Of The Year by Lemonade Magazine, and been played on major radio such as BBC6 (UK), Sveriges Radio (Sweden) and 3FM (Netherlands). With nothing but hard work and determination she has built an incredibly dedicated community now with over 29,000 followers on Twitter, and to let her fans in on her journey even more she published her first book “Empty Roads and Broken Bottles; in search for The Great Perhaps” in April 2013, telling the true and raw story about a girl who had a dream and went for it with all her heart. The book was beautifully received and sold out after 3 days of pre-order.

The Cabana Kids Release Debut EP, “The Birds & The Bee;” Listen to “Oh Lorelei”

New York based THE CABANA KIDS have just launched their second single, “Oh Lorelei,” via My Old Kentucky Blog. The Brooklyn sextet has just released their highly anticipated debut EP, The Birds & The Bees on October 7, via Small Plates Records.

Playing much-talked about shows at venues such as Cake Shop, Pianos’ and Brooklyn Bowl, The Cabana Kids rapidly started to become a fan favorite. With the recent success of their debut single, “Just Let Me Know,” their sunny male-female harmonies has a deep retro feel that you won’t be able to shake. The perfectly blended vocals of founding member Joseph Lee and singer Alena Spanger are laced with infectious and reverb filled guitars, rolling drums and dreamy lyrics.

Songwriter and frontman Joseph Lee says of “Oh Lorelei”: ““Oh Lorelei” is about a girl who has broken hearts. Her name also refers to a cliff/rock of the same name that sits on the Rhine River. According to folklore there was a maiden who sang in the night calling sailors to crash upon her rocky shores. In terms of love, sometimes we know things will end bad, but we’re powerless against the force of attraction.”

EndAnd Offer Up A Bit of Punk

EndAnd, the Brooklyn group currently making a stir, have just released their latest record, Fun Times with Shitty People. dips into the Punk realm and then some. Their latest 6-song EP proves to be a showstopper right from the start with the riotous “Art #1.” The tracks are laced with the heavy punk sensibility that seems to be prominently missing from Brooklyn at times these days. Swirling guitars show off in tracks such as “Choked on Beer,” and “Much and More About Everything,” lead up to even more amazing pieces as the record progresses. Picking up the rowdyness even more is “I Don’t Party” (a personal favorite), “I Used to Eat Shit But Now I Pick It Up, and “Fuck You Congresswoman Bullshit and Your Shit Staff” which closes out the record nicely.

Nehedar Takes Center Stage with “The Warming House”

To the surprise of my ears, I checked out NYC based Nehedar. The brainchild of Emilia Cataldo, who has just released her new album, The Warming House, offers up two of my favorite genres: Antifolk and Americana. Yes it feels like Antifolk is not a term we have heard very often lately, but for those who remember the glory days of The Moldy Peaches (and Adam Green’s and Kimya Dawson’s solo albums respectively), Regina Spektor (The early days), the list goes on.

Nehedar has been around for quite a while as she is on her 7th release. The album was recorded in Brooklyn with Little Pioneer (Craig Levy). Possibly her most diverse sounding record to date, I was immediately drawn into The Warming House. Kicking off the record is “Is It Annoying,” which is a vibrant burst of energy that truly embraces her eclectic sound. Bright horns fill throughout which adds a remarkable tone to the piece and sets the tone for the record. “Not Your Whipping Woman,” and “Don’t Look,” provide added insight into the record, bring the work into fruition. “Come Into the Light,” offers a softer side of Nehedar (possibly the most accessible for the mainstream listeners), while “Loshon Hara Barbie,” picks up and brings back her energetic feel. One track that stood at to me the most was the title track “The Warming House,” which has a warming embrace. Another standout piece to me was “The Tree” which hit home immediately. Nehedar’s vocals in the piece are outstanding and every word seems so heartfelt, as it does for most of the record.

The Voices of Terror Get Heavy

Meet The Voices of Terror are an Alternative Rock and Hip-Hop music group that hail from Deptford, NJ. The band recently caught my attention with their latest release, Rock-Rap Dynasty. The record is the band’s debut, and an exhilarating one at that. The Voices of Terror consist of members Mike Walker and Zero. The two are jacks of all trades as they create, write and produce their own music. The group has a bit of throwback 90’s flare if you enjoy acts such as Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy and new groups such as Death Grips.

One track that immediately stood out to me from the group is the single,”Warning.” Heavy hiting and straight to the point as stand to deliver. The track opens with stunning strings, that launch the record and track in a superb way. Their eclectic sound will most likely appeal to most with an ear for the heavy side. Standout tracks such as “Insane Lyricist,” “Warrior,” and”Problems,” caught my ear immediately and drew me into the record even further. Closing out the record is the stunning “Voiceless,” which dives even further into the group’s musical abilities.

Harris Hawk “Make the Fonz Bleed”

Straight from the heart of Boston, MA, meet the infectious sounds of HARRIS HAWK. The group has just premiered their riotous new single, “Make the Fonz Bleed,” from their latest record Mutes.

Harris Hawk was formed in 2012 when Anne Warnock (vocals, guitar) and Oliver Hinds (guitar) realized they both liked weird, loud bands. Together they demoed a few songs, found them sufficiently weird, and sought other people to play them loudly. Steve Shannon (drums) and Mike Sullivan (bass) eventually came on board, and liked these unusual songs that Warnock and Hinds had created.

With one record already under their belt with the 2013 debut, FEEDER, the group released their latest effort, Mutes, in June 2014.

Mutes was tracked and mixed in four days by the wizards at Machines with Magnets in Pawtucket, RI and mastered by Heba Kadry at Timeless Mastering. The album proves to be a louder, quieter, hookier, and weirder record, meant to intrigue on the first listen and continue to surprise into the tenth.
