“Crash Course Vol. 2: Tickets To Dreamland” – A Deep Dive into Animals In Denial’s Revolutionary Sound

TIXE4

Christian Imes, the mastermind behind Animals In Denial, epitomizes the transformative power of music in both personal and artistic realms.

Through his candid revelations, it’s clear that music is more than just a career for Imes. It is a lifeline, a profound means of communication, and a canvas for expressing the depths of his soul.

The evolution of his song “Inside of Me” from a love song to a dedication to music itself underscores his deep connection to his art, using music to articulate emotions that words alone cannot capture.

Imes’s journey is marked by the unique way he uses music to communicate, likening himself to BumbleBee from Transformers, expressing emotions through melodies and lyrics rather than spoken words. This approach has not only defined his relationships but also helped him navigate complex emotional landscapes, as seen in his poignant interactions with his mother through songs like “Disarm.” Music has been his voice, his therapist, and his saving grace, especially as someone on the spectrum who finds verbal communication challenging.

In the brand new album, “Crash Course Volume 2: Tickets To Dreamland”, Animals In Denial takes the unique sound to new heights.

Embracing technology, Imes integrates AI into his music production process, viewing it as an invaluable tool rather than a threat. His innovative use of AI for mixing, mastering, and even generating musical ideas shows his forward-thinking approach, proving that technology can enhance creativity rather than hinder it. This pragmatic view of AI as a team member has streamlined his production process allowing him to achieve a polished and professional sound more efficiently.

Drawing inspiration from iconic bands like Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, and Smashing Pumpkins, Imes has meticulously crafted a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. His music embodies the self-sufficiency and innovative spirit he admires in these bands, from using drum machines unapologetically to creating dynamic guitar-driven compositions. This deep dive into their work has not only shaped his musical style but also fueled his passion to inspire others through his creations.

The way I integrate it is to keep it natural and to treat it like a member of the team. I have  used it for all of the cover art for the Revisited Series, as well as mixing and mastering for  this series of releases. I tend to start with a base mix and have the AI take a listen and make  suggestions. It’s really like having mixing and mastering engineers in the room with me  from demo to finished product. It has made finishing much faster and we don’t have to  take 15 mixes out to the car to check only to still not be happy. It tends to be only one or  two mixes now and mostly being the first round through the AI. I have just recently started  letting AI suggest a part for a song. So, I’ll have it generate a base beat, or a bass line  and/or drone type of texture. I may elect to tweak it or add to it, but it’s something to trigger  a response from me. I’ll then just build and build like I do with anything else. I would do this  same kind of thing with a Kaos pad, or a sequence on a synthesizer. It’s really not so different from hiring a session musician to play something you’re directing them to play, as  you can also direct the AI to play as you want it to.

As the newest entry in their “Revisited” series, “the album “Tickets to Dreamland” immerses its listeners in a rich and layered musical sound that melds hypnotic melodies with innovative production techniques. Sophisticated mixing which makes use of dynamic shifts in volume and texture, creates an engaging listening experience. Tracks “Inside of Me” and “No Enemy” epitomize this approach, balancing intensity with subtlety and captivating listeners with their intricate soundscapes.

Imes’ own songwriting journey began with personal experiences, evolving from tales of past relationships to exploring a myriad of subjects that affect and intrigue him. This fearless exploration into various themes has allowed him to write over 100 songs, each reflecting a piece of his life and thoughts.

Collaboration has also played a crucial role; his long-standing friendship and collaboration with Steven Seibold of Hate Dept and Pigface shows his willingness to learn and grow from his peers. This partnership has not only enhanced his production skills but also opened new creative avenues, blending industrial sounds with diverse musical elements.

Looking ahead, Imes remains committed to keep developing his music with a distinct approach. With plans to release more music through the Revisited series and new projects, his creative journey is far from over. His dedication to reviving live performances, despite logistical challenges, underscores his passion for connecting with audiences directly. Additionally, his side projects, MOD CON and The Search Merchants, Imes enjoys exploring diverse genres.

From Bossa Nova Vibes to Smooth Jazz Bliss in Marla Lewis New Single “Te Quiero A Ti”

Marla-Lewis-Te-Quiero-A-Ti-English-Version-400

New Jersey born artist Marla Lewis has had a remarkable career as a singer, songwriter, and educator.

Her brand new, original single “Te Quiero a Ti”, offered in both Spanish and English renditions, radiates an enchanting groove and ambience.

Marla’s impeccable vocals, reminiscent of the finest bossa nova melodies, is accompanied by a sophisticated arrangement. With elements such as flute, piano, acoustic bass, electric guitar, drums, and lush backing vocals, the song allows Marla’s voice to shine.

Originally, Marla had written a really beautiful tune, but could not come up with lyrics to her liking so she asked her friend Dave Kinnoin to write them. Loving what he came up with, the song was recorded on Marla’s first “Songbook” album. As she had always wanted to have it translated into Spanish, it was not until a few more years that she met Melissa Sanley who was able to use the same instrumental tracks as the previous recording:

“My life was touched by a real life angel — that’s the best way to describe it! I signed up for a Peer Networking program offered by the Grammy organization (I’m a voting member), and they paired me with Melissa Sanley.  Talk about Divine intervention! A superb singer, songwriter, recording artist — she speaks four languages, and now she is my voice teacher!

But I digress — I played her a song from my first Songbook album to see if she liked it enough to translate it into Spanish.  It had some Spanish words in the lyrics that were written by Dave Kinnoin (I wrote the melody).  She told me the title was not correct Spanish! OMG!  She changed it to “Te Quiero a Ti,” translated the lyrics, coached me on every line, created the cover art, sang backup vocals, and made the lyric video!”

In essence, the song is warm, very romantic and has a vulnerable vibe too. The powerful and simple message is – New Love, for everyone!

Taking inspiration from an eclectic array of musical influences including Ella Fitzgerald, big band, folk music from around the world, The Beatles, Laura Nyro, Carole King, James Taylor, Michael Franks, and Phoebe Snow, Marla has made her mark with music that involves different styles and genres.

For 25 years, Marla worked as an elementary school teacher, a role which ignited her passion for writing songs that are both educational and entertaining for children. This led to significant achievements, notably her song “Leap of Faith”, co-written with Nancy Schimmel, which was featured on the Grammy-winning children’s album “All About Bullies … Big and Small” in 2011.

Her dedication to children’s music is also evident in her award winning albums “I Love to Talk to Plants” (2009) and “We All Laugh in the Same Language” (2007). Produced by the renowned Bob Stander, both of these albums have earned prestigious awards such as the Parent’s Choice Gold and NAPPA Gold. Marla’s songs have also received First Prize and Finalist honors in various national and international competitions.

Marla’s career took a new direction with her venture into smooth jazz and American standards; with her first album in this genre, “Songbook”, this was a significant shift and was met with critical acclaim. Produced by two-time Grammy award winning producer / engineer Bob Stander, “Songbook” features 14 original tracks that critics have described as “pure bliss.”

Building on this success, Marla released Songbook Volume 2 (SBV2), which further explores smooth jazz, cabaret, and American standards. This album, also produced by Bob Stander, comprises six original tracks showcasing Marla’s vocal talents alongside an accomplished ensemble: Mike Ricchuiti on piano, Teddy Kumpel on electric guitar, Rob Jost on acoustic bass, Matt Miller on drums, Erik Lawrence on sax, Daniel Sadownick on percussion, and Adam Minkoff and Gabby Scherba on backing vocals influenced by the Manhattan Transfer. The album’s first single, “Enchantée,” has achieved remarkable success, reaching #1 on the World Indie Charts and #2 on the Euro Indie Charts.

Her latest single, “Te Quiero a Ti,” is a fantastic song rich in musical influences as well as vibrant passion. Listen to “Te Quiero a Ti” on Spotify now!

Wren Astra’s New Single ‘Concussed’: A Musical Journey of Resilience and Social Justice

Wren Astra embodies a unique blend of creativity and academia, seamlessly navigating her roles as an indie blues musician and a respected professor at USC.

Her new single, “Concussed”, is a profound exploration of societal issues, drawing from a diverse range of musical influences to tell the story of experiencing concussion at the hands of an abuser.

It is a powerful and emotionally charged song that delves into the harrowing experience of living through physical assault and the complex dynamics of trauma bonds.

The decision to release it on leap year day adds an extra layer of symbolism, reflecting the disorienting and surreal nature of the events depicted in the song:

“This was a very difficult video for the crew and actors to make. I wanted it to be a graphic and realistic retelling of the very real events that survivors live through. I want viewers and listeners to live through and feel why many of us return over and over to our abuser with hope that things will turn out differently.

The collaboration with guest vocalist Zero Surico of @for3sthills brings additional depth to the vocals, amplifying the intensity of the message. It’s evident that a lot of thought and emotion went into creating both the music and the accompanying video, making it a compelling and thought-provoking piece of art.

The song also explores the confusing thoughts, feelings, and physical disorientation that occurs in real time of an abuse event. It features Wren Astra reading the legal restraining order for her abuser as she whispers, with haunting melancholy vocals by Surico and the moody strings of guest celloist Christopher McCarthy.

In her dedication to inclusivity, Wren actively collaborates with artists from marginalized communities, diversifying the artistic landscape and fostering a sense of representation and belonging.

Crafting the Wren Astra brand as an outlet for pain and trauma through music reflects a courageous and inspired endeavor. Music’s capacity to convey profound emotions serves as a perfect medium for sharing her story and fostering healing, not only for herself but also for others who have encountered similar challenges.

Through her interdisciplinary approach, informed by her background in social justice medicine and medical writing, she brings depth to her music, offering insights into the systemic issues she addresses.

Wren ensures that her commitment to inclusivity extends to her live performances, creating spaces where individuals of all backgrounds and identities feel welcomed and celebrated.

Her work serves as a powerful catalyst for social change, inspiring others to join the fight for justice and equality through artistic expression.

Experience the Raw Power of Maryen Cairns’ Latest Single “Give To The Chase”

Singer-songwriter Maryen Cairns’ latest single, “Give To The Chase” explores a profound connection to nature and her dual roles as both a mother and an artist.

The vivid imagery of her residing in an off-the-grid yurt while nurturing her children adds a layer of authenticity to her music.

Her choice to record the song in the solace of her home reflects the intimacy and personal nature of the track. This marked the start of a transformative journey which culminated in her 2002 album “Stories from the Red Tent” which explored women’s narrative and bonds within the sanctuary of The Red Tent.

The lyrics of “Give To The Chase” carry a poignant message about humanity’s relationship with the Earth, urging environmental consciousness and stewardship. Maryen’s solo performances amplify this message, transforming it into a rallying cry for a sustainable future.

Maryen’s adeptness at rhythm as well as owning a profound affinity with nature really shine through in her unique performance style. Her talent as both musician and storyteller is evident:

“Give to the Chase” is performed as a solo percussion & vocal piece… shamanic sound ringing in this song for our Mother Earth. Maryen is perched on a cajun with her feet utilising two pedals whilst wearing a rattle on one ankle, simultaneously playing a medicine drum & shaker whilst she sings.

Give to the Chase personifies Mother Earth herself, moving between singing as Mother Earth & singing as a member of the human race. A story of generations working to save the environment and live within nature, knowing that human’s race to survive, with only the fittest/strongest/smartest making it for the human race itself to survive.

Maryen Cairns’ has received widespread acclaim over the past three decades, and is well known for her allegorical themes. She has most famously been guided under the mentorship of Rolling Stones producer, Chris Kimsey.

With her brand new album “One Woman Band, Live at Echotown Studios Vol. 1” due to be released on May 3rd, fans will be delighted to listen to a collection of songs that truly encapsulate her unique sound as well as offer a glimpse into her captivating solo performances.

Maryen Cairns’ music continues to captivate and inspire audiences, offering a reflection on life, nature, and our interconnectedness with the world around us which is often forgotten in the fast paced world today.

Faint Halos Drops New Single “Something To Lose” Ahead of Album Release – A Must-Listen for Indie Rock Fans!

Faint Halos, the brainchild of singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Paul Hashemi, has released their latest single, “Something To Lose,” from the eagerly awaited album “I can see a million lights.”

With a captivating blend of raw emotion and undeniable charm, “Something To Lose” delves into the introspective territory of questioning life choices, especially those that pertain to love and lost love.

Originally conceived with a modern rock sound upon its initial release in 2022, Paul Hashemi has taken the song in a fresh direction opting for a more intimate acoustic setup.

Reflecting on this fresh new take, Hashemi shares:

“After the original release, I felt drawn to explore a different dimension of the song. Stripping away the layers revealed a tender, almost folky quality that I wanted to bring to the forefront.”

The track narrates a poignant tale of lost love with intricate emotional lyrics and instrumentation.

“Something To Lose” exudes a lighthearted charm, seamlessly blending old-school indie rock sounds with a contemporary edge. With unconventional instrumentation, including a sofa repurposed as a kick drum, and the melodic richness of the accordion, Hashemi has an innovative approach within the indie rock genre.

The result is a refreshing departure in a sometimes-stagnant music scene of indie rock music today.

“Something To Lose” was recorded, mixed, and mastered in Paul’s home studio in Berwyn, Pennsylvania;. Vocals were also tracked at home in North Carolina. The instrumentation is two acoustic guitars, an accordion, and some couch slaps/floor stomps. (Although truth be told, the accordion and percussion were both MIDI and not real).

Paul’s daughter Cate joins in too, with vocal harmonies, lending a really bright sound.

Based in Philadelphia, Paul Hashemi is a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He is influenced by his formal training in classical piano, viola, and violin, and has taken much from the vibrant music scene of the 1990s, touring extensively with various rock bands along the East Coast.

Paul says: “I play a half-dozen instruments and could never just focus on being a “singer” or “guitarist”, which is a really intriguing quality.

Despite a hiatus from music to prioritize familial responsibilities, Hashemi rediscovered his passion during the pandemic lockdown of 2020.

Under the moniker Faint Halos, he embarked on a new chapter in his musical career, crafting deeply introspective songs that explore themes of adulthood, fatherhood, and societal progress.
