Track Review: “It Goes Down” by Tape Deck Mountain

Tape Deck Mountain has released a single called “It Goes Down” from their forthcoming EP entitled Secret Serf.  The EP will be released this Tuesday, Jan. 11th.  Upon first listen, one immediately thinks of 90s shoegaze acts such as My Bloody Valentine.  There is a lengthy instrumental “noise” start and then the dreamy, nearly indecipherable lyrics begin.  All in all, a beautiful song:  http://lefserecords.com/tracks/TDM-ItGoesDown.mp3

Pretty Lights Ignite Label

Derek Vincent Smith, better known as Pretty Lights, provided fans with a pleasant surprise earlier this month when he announced the launch of his own record label. Derek’s objectives are simple; he wants to supply his fans, and fans of electronic music at large, with free music from the artists he believes in and supports.

To that end, Pretty Lights Music will release two free EPs on January 25th, Break Science’s debut EP, Further Than Our Eyes Can See, and a new EP from Paper Diamond entitled Levitate. Down below we’ve included the lead singles from each EP for streaming.

Take A Trip Down Under With Amanda Palmer

Always looking for a way to push the envelope, Australian native Amanda Palmer has certainly done it again with the release of her latest album Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under.  In her new single, “Map of Tasmania”, Palmer not only disses a former lover for his love of the Aussie treat vegemite, but also gives praise to a woman’s nether regions.

Finishing a long drawn out battle to be released from her major label record contract, Amanda has set the Internet ablaze with her unique way of sharing her music with the rest of the world.  Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under will be released physically in her native of Australia through Liberator on January 21st, but fans will also be able to download the album electronically and choose how much they would like to pay.

In support of her new album, she will be touring Australia and New Zealand throughout January and February which includes a stop at MONO FOMA Festival in Tasmania.  Check out all of her latest information on her Web site.

It may seem like a long ways away, but Spring Break will be here soon. If you want a brief reprieve from the joys of winter, why not head down to Mexico?

As if the sun, sand and sea weren’t enough motivation, Beach Dog Presents is looking to entice you musically as well. Beach Dog has announced its inaugural Electric Beach, an event that features Pretty Lights, Wiz Khalifa, Sam Adams, Chiddy Bang, Savoy and the White Panda.

Hosted at the Gran Melia Cancun, Beach Dog is only giving tickets away to this exclusive event through packages that include hotel rooms and access to all three days of the festival. The packages come in three styles: Gold (for $1350 per person), Platinum ($1550) and Diamond ($1750). Each package includes a three night stay in the hotel and you can get more information right here

So if you love electronic music and are feeling the winter blahs, chase them away with images of some of the best bands of the genre playing in one of the swankiest hotels in Mexico. Sounds kinda nice.
