Following the irresistibly energetic “Pot of Gold” and his Vevo Ctrl live performance, trailblazing rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer, Felly, has unveiled the official music video for his new single “Bones” from his upcoming album, ‘Young Fel 2.’ Popularly known for soulful songs like “Heartstrings” featuring Carlos Santana and a boundless energy to his music, Felly has once again produced a hit with “Bones” and ‘Young Fel 2,’ the official sequel to Felly’s 2016 debut EP. The new album features his experimental blend of traditional rap, indie rock, and soul, to revisit the original EP’s childlike and playful nature, but with a new-age mindset paired with darker tones to go along with the album’s release date during Felly’s favorite month of the year – October. 

“Bones” was created by an all-star cast of collaborators including A-list co-writer Jesse St. John, who wrote the Billboard number-one single, “Truth Hurts,” by Lizzo, “Something’s Gotta Give” for Camila Cabello, and songs for Britney Spears, Charli XCX, Lauv and many others. The single was co-produced by Midi Jones, who co-produced 2021’s “Dancing With The Devil” for Demi Lovato, “Naked” for Ella Mai, and worked with Alessia Cara, Galantis and many others. “Bones” was also co-produced by Todd Pritchard, who has production credits on songs by Tory Lanez, NBA Youngboy, Trippie Redd, Tinashe and G-Eazy among others.

Speaking about the meaning of the song, Felly stated, “Bones is the succession of heartbreak.   It’s the feeling of like, once you’ve gotten over your heart hurting for someone else that it’s not even about them anymore – it’s about you. Your longing to not feel crushed anymore. It’s almost this pathetic request to feel ok, to feel loved.” Felly continues, “It’s more primal than it is emotional. I wrote it with two of my new favorite producers out here in LA. Midi Jones and Todd Pritchard. I just feel like they’re so good at what they do and see us having many more records together although this is our first one. I even made Todd sing on it which turned out amazing. Hardest beat of all time by the way.”

“Jamie Ashland” is a character that custie developed to speak with his own voice, act on his intentions, and deal with his insecurities – just with a different face.

This heartfelt track blends acoustic and electric guitar with beguiling harmonies, speaking to a hypothetical son or daughter: “Love’s a solution thinner than blood / but it solves some problems if you’re willing to trust / and it lives with every heart that was once piled dust.”

This is advice that custie gives himself, completely rooted in his own life, lived through the foil of “Jamie Ashland” for four minutes:

“In an ideal situation, you learn to look outside of yourself, to trust, to be by somebody’s side. It doesn’t fix everything, but it definitely nourishes a part of you,” the artist explains.

The title – No Jesus Piece – is a reference to the duo embracing their own spiritual symbols. While they respect people for having their own religions and religious symbols, for Yung Trybez and Young D, they’d rather rock their Copper Shield. The Catholic church and the government of Canada used Catholicism as a tool of annihilation of Indigenous culture, practice, teachings and ways of being. SNRK identify the connections between the importance of putting their faith in a sacred metal, copper or the ‘copper shield.’ 

The song is about SNRK, ignoring the critics around them, and betting on themselves. The duo have seen some fans of their first two albums criticizing them for embracing trap, experimenting with autotune, and developing their sound, but SNRK want to continue to evolve and they’re going to keep making the music they want to make, and put faith in themselves that the fans are going to appreciate what they continue to create. The more upbeat nature of the lyrics is a reflection of when they wrote this song. Written early in COVID times in 2020, the duo hadn’t yet dealt with everything that ultimately led them to create ‘Life After.’ No suicides, family struggles, uncovering of mass graves at residential schools, loneliness and isolation of COVID and depression.
