Honeypot Shares “Fake News”

“Fake News” is a perfect song to send Trump out of office – It’s been one of his favorite Tweets and outcries that we have had to tolerate for the last 4 years.

This track from Charleston SC band Honeypot is both tongue in cheek and dripping in deep sarcasm all the way through but what it is really doing is denouncing the hypocrisy of Trump’s attacks against journalism.  According to lead singer Frank Hartman the track was written in 2018, but now that this presidential reign is ending, it seems the perfect send-off to both.

Hartman chose to preface this track’s video with a very powerful poem “First they came which according to Wikipedia …” is the poetic form of a post-war confessional prose by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). It is about the cowardice of German intellectuals and certain clergy—including, by his own admission, Niemöller himself—following the Nazisrise to power and subsequent incremental purging of their chosen targets, group after group. It really hit home to preface it with a poem about accountability now that we are at the end of a presidency that seems to have had none.

The Charleston, SC band is heavily influenced by classic rock and prog rock bands like Rush, Alice in Chains, Tool, and Guns n Roses.
