Alex Winters Releases a Song for the Ages

Screen Shot 2020-06-29 at 7.11.31 PM
Songstress Alex Winters is on a high with the release of her latest track “Return to Sender.” A pleasant surprise for this year amongst all the craziness going on, Alex carries a heavenly song that sets the tone for hopefully, more music to come this year. The track is the follow up to her past release “Hearts on Fire,” which was unleashed late last year. Since then, Alex Winters has honed her signature sound even more so, as she takes her songwriting and performing to a whole new level.

Recently Alex shared of “Return to Sender”

“I woke up one morning with my ex heavy on my mind, wanting to know if he was happy. We’ve been separated for many years but I still wonder how he is from time to time. So I stalked him on Facebook for an hour and a half just looking through all of his pictures, his new wife’s pictures, their posts about each other trying to get an answer. That night I sat down and wrote this song. I don’t know if you can really get an accurate picture of someone’s happiness from social media, but it made me feel better to see him smiling in pictures with her and doing some of the things he’d always talked about doing.”
More about Alex Winters:
Alex continues to develop her unique solo repertoire, reveling in a vision that is still introspective and sensitive, yet equally strong, enigmatic and haunting. Her music has added an electric edge to her acoustic singer/songwriter persona, resulting in a more blunt sound akin to Evanescence and Grace Potter, with a touch of Heart. The new tracks carry a distinct Rock n’ Roll feel that brings a new dimension to her heartfelt songs without alienating longtime fans of Alex’s introspective compositions.

Video Voyager: 3Qs with Abby K

ABBYK-9719

Abby K is an amazing singer-songwriter from Seattle, WA. Her latest release “It’s Okay (Not to be Okay)” came out on June 12, 2020 and was influenced by her musical heroes, Fran Healy of Travis and Michael Stipe of R.E.M. Read on to learn more about the visual representation Abby chose for this new track – we know you’re going to love this empowering anthem!

Tell us the story of this song, why did you choose to visualize this song specifically in this way?

Written just before brewing chaos changed life as we know it, “It’s Okay (not to be Okay)” was born in Cambria, CA while on my January West Coast Tour of my latest album.  The song reflects current authentic human feelings of anguish and fear I observed in the world driving along the W. Coast. It’s okay not to be okay. It’s okay to have hard times and bad feelings. And not only is it okay to talk about them, it’s necessary and time. This song is my way of expressing that along with my virtual, giant, ambient hug.

What was the inspiration behind this video (visuals, storyline, etc.)?

Authenticity. I wanted nothing less than real; one-hundred percent. No professional footage or stock photos. Humans sharing their emotions in real time during the most unprecedented times ever existing in our lives. A patchwork documentary.

What was the process of making this video?

Robin Chow, the video project editor, asked me to reach out to my network requesting small video clips showing themselves in their lives today; quarantine. All I gave them for inspiration was the title of the song. I received over 80 clips from friends, family and fans from all over the world! It was one of the more heartwarming moments of my 2020 to date. Connecting on personal levels with so many while experiencing the exact same thing worldwide. Robin’s editing is brilliant. The perfect visual package to the songs’ sentiment. I hope the song reaches the world in any, even small, significant way.

Holy Roller Baby Come Alive with “Leper Blues”

image1(1) (2)

Are you ready to hear some magic for your ears? Look no further than Holy Roller Baby; an Austin, Texas band that is making a splash in a big way. From the start, the group have been enticing crowds with 70s laced hooks, big guitar sounds and intricate and eclectic vocals that sets the band apart from the rest. Their new single to hit the streets comes in the form of “Leper Blues,” which brings the band’s primitive swagger to your headphones.

With music as spirited as their name suggests, the band blends the best of 70s string-bending guitar rock with an undeniably forward-thinking perspective. Raucous and gritty with a focus on songwriting, melody, and substantive lyrics, the band plays glorious rock at concussive volumes while swinging to an unmistakable beat, filtering a thunderous bluster through a soul crooner’s sensibility.

Founded in 2017 in Austin, Texas, the band’s lineup previously played in the psych/rock band Heavy Glow, playing over 300 shows in the US and Canada. Spearheaded by the songwriting of Jared Mullins and using two lead guitarists, the four-piece was invited to record their debut album at Radiohead’s Courtyard Studios in Oxfordshire, England. Together with producer Ian Davenport (Band of Skulls, Supergrass, Philip Selway of Radiohead) the band recorded a blistering 50-minute, 12-track album that combs through a diverse array of blues-tinged rock, even borrowing amps and percussion from Radiohead and guitars from Gaz Coombes (ex-Supergrass) to do so.
