CSS Trade Labels

Brazillian sensation CSS have traded in their partnership with Sub Pop for a new label.

The group announced they have signed with V2/Cooperative Music/Downtown Records. They always say three names are better than one…or something.

The band will release their newest album August 29th. It’s called La Liberacion. Lovefoxxx, the singer for the band, said that her mantra for the new record is “rip shit.” Sounds like they want to get even louder.

Throughout the summer, CSS will be touring with fellow noisemakers Sleigh Bells. You can see them both here (but first I’d recommend some ear plugs).

The Beets Announce Tour With Eternal Summers, Release New Song

More and more bands from Queens have been popping up, hoping to unseat Brooklyn as the New York borough with the most happening scene. Jackson Heights natives, The Beets, are the brainchild of Uruguay born frontman Juan Wauters and best friend Jose Garcia, creating lo-fi pop songs more remniscient of a time lost than the current New York scene. With their second album, Stay Home, in stores already, the band have set up a tour with friends Eternal Summers. Look for them on the road the next two months and check out the new song “Time Brought Age.”

Spinto Band Give You A Song

THE SPINTO BAND

Last year, the Spinto Band recorded a cover of Christopher Cross’ “Arthur Theme (Best That You Can Do)”

Somewhat fortuitously, the remake of the movie of the same name happened to be filming at the same time. The band was hoping to find their remake sneaking into the movie somewhere, but alas it was not to be.

Instead of letting the remake sit collecting (digital) dust somewhere, the band decided that it needed to be shared with the world.

They are giving it away for free as a download on their site (in exchange for your e-mail, there’s always a catch). You can get the new tune right here, and look for more news about Spinto’s new album and tour coming soon.

Full Stream of the New Crystal Stilts Record

cs

The new Crystal Stilts LP, In Love With Oblivion, came out this week but over at the Hype Machine you can get a free stream of the entire album to try before you buy! Throw these guys in with the likes of Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, The Fresh and Onlys, and fuck it, The Doors too — spooky, atmospheric pop songs wrapped in fuzz and reverb.  On first listen, this is their most effective work yet.

More Details on Javelin’s Canyon Candy

About two weeks ago, we gave you guys the scoop on Javelin’s new record, Canyon Candy. Set for release on April 16th, the album marks a distinct stylistic change for the band. This week, shortly after our friends at Stereogum unveiled the album’s first single, band member Thomas Van Buskirk revealed the album’s origins.

Said Van Buskirk “We recorded some on the road, some at home when on break from tour. George and I spent a fair amount of time driving through the South and Western landscape between Feb-June ’09 … in the course of touring with Yeasayer, playing SXSW, and before that playing with our good friend Lucky Dragons in California. Somewhere along the drives we started noticing amazing National Park signs : “Crater of Diamonds” for instance.  They sounded like song names.

The musician also teased us with this tidbit ” [Our] engineer said one song sounded like The Band mixed with Lil Jon.” Intriguing…
