Yuck Member Talks Solo Project

Yuck frontman, Daniel Blumberg, has announced a solo album under the name of Oupa.  Instead of Yuck’s usual indie pop gems, Oupa is focused on pared-down piano ballads.  Oupa’s debut LP, Forget, will be released in June, and contains 7 spellbinding songs.  Oupa will also be touring, including SXSW, at these locations:

03/17 Austin, TX Transparent / Gorilla Vs. Bear SXSW Party

04/03 London, UK Blue Flowers (Curated by Oupa)
04/07 New York, NY Glasslands *

Soft Moon Releases Haunting Live Video

TSM

The Soft Moon delights in a brand of fuzz-punk that leaves you feeling slightly uneasy in a good way. Luckily, Moon (aka Luis Vasquez) has released a video for one of his live performances. The haunting music is even more affecting when it’s accompanied with the flashing, colorless video, as it is for the song “Tiny Spiders.”

Soft Moon released a self-titled debut late last year on Captured Tracks, and is now out touring behind it. Check out his schedule after the video (found here).

03/16 Austin, TX – Red 7 (Force Field PR / Terrorbird Day Party)

03/16 Austin, TX – Nuvola (Primavera Sound Festival Party)

03/17 Austin, TX – Austin Museum of Art (G-House Presents Showcase)

03/17 Austin, TX – Beerland (Sacred Bones Records Party)

MillionYoung cover Floyd’s “Us and Them” for Yours Truly

Anybody could cover Pink Floyd in the studio, layering tracks to create the sonic landscapes they classically reveled in.  If Live in Pompeii taught us anything, it’s that playing Pink Floyd songs live is an intricate process; one that lesser bands could never manage — at least until Macbooks.

MillionYoung recently took the reigns on Dark Side of the Moon’s “Us and Them,” and Yours Truly has captured it on video to share with you.  MillionYoung doesn’t get as bombastic as the coda of the original, which is probably a good thing, and treats the entire song as a fuzzed out jam.   The Flaming Lips could learn something from this rendition.
