Modern Skirts Release New Track, Brief Tour Schedule

Modern Skirts showed up on the music landscape in 2005 with a piano-heavy focus and a spot on Paste Magazine’s 50 Best Albums of 2005 with Catalogue of Generous Men.

The band just put out their third full-length in which they turned down the pianos and brought up the guitar. Gramahawk has dark and gritty subjects while still keeping the catchy hooks and (moderate) piano that were featured in the band’s first two efforts.

The band self-produced the album in New Orleans, and you can hear a song off of the album right here.
Listen to “Happy 81”

Furthermore, Modern Skirts are doing a brief tour of the south. If you happen to live down there, you can see them:

2.11 – Raleigh, NC – Pour House

2.12 – Charlotte, NC – Snug Harbor

3.4 – Athens, GA – 40 Watt Club

3.5 – Atlanta, GA – Smith’s Olde Bar

3.11 – New Orleans, LA – Circle Bar

Mean Creek Offer Up Free EP

Boston-based rock quartet Mean Creek recently made their way to Brooklyn to record a new EP with legendary producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., The Hold Steady, etc.). After being named “Best Boston Act” by the readers of The Boston Phoenix and receiving nominations at this year’s Boston Music Awards for “Album of the Year” and “Song of the Year” for their track “The Comedian,” Mean Creek entered the studio earlier this month with Agnello in an attempt to capture their distinct live sound and energy onto recording. The resulting EP, entitled Hemophiliac, is now available for free download on the band’s BandCamp site.

The Twilight Singers Announce European Tour

twilight singers

New Orleans natives (REPRESENT) The Twilight Singers are well known throughout the indie world for blending soul, rock, and electronic music into their own distinct style. Spawned in 1997 as a side project of The Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli, they have since released four albums, including 2006’s critically acclaimed Powder Burns. Nearly 5 years later, the group is ready to release a new album and go on tour once again.

Now signed to Sub Pop, Dynamite Steps drops on February 15th, at which point the group will play its first ever in-store concerts, at Amoeba Records in Los Angeles on the 15th and San Francisco on the 17th. From there, the band embarks on a European tour.
