Playtime #2: The Miniature Tigers

The Miniature Tigers are no stranger to appearing on Modern Mystery. Recently the band did us the honor of performing a few songs at the 1st Park in lower Manhattan. The band manages to make their already perfect songs, outstanding with the acoustic, stripped down vibe. Is it too early to claim our favorite Playtime session of all time yet? Sit back, admire the giant golden frog, and enjoy!

Secondhand Sunday: Robbers on High Street “Crown Victoria”

CMJ is in town this week and we can’t be more excited. 1,200 bands, 100s of venues, total overload. Sorry we were sort of sparse in content last week. We’ve been setting up some awesome (yes awesome!) interviews and performances with some amazing bands. Be sure to check back for updates! Today’s Secondhand Sunday comes from a band we’re excited about seeing at CMJ, Robbers on High Street. One of the greatest bands that the city has to offer. Off of Grand Animals we bring you “Crown Victoria.” An artsy little video that is pretty awesome if you ask us! Robbers will be playing this Thursday at 8pm at the Bell House in Brooklyn. Nice!

Headlights’ Live Webcast Tonight!

The Modern Mystery crew currently has Headlight’s fever over here! Not only is the band playing three shows at CMJ next Friday and Saturday in  Brooklyn, but they are also embarking on a lengthy U.S. tour that kicks off tomorrow in Iowa City, IA. To give fans a taste of what is coming (and what Wildlife is sounding like live), Headlights are doing a special Webcast performance from their rehersal studio, TONIGHT AT 9PM EST TIME (6PM PAC).

Be sure to catch the whole performance at their WEBSITE ! This is something you won’t want to miss!

In other Headlights’ news, the band is premiering their first music video off of Wildlife for “Get Going” over at Spin Earth. Check out Headlight’s tour dates below and in case you missed it the first time, give our interview with front woman Erin Fein a read!

Sloan Announce U.S. Tour Dates!!!

Just when we thought we’d have to go the year without Sloan passing through town, we all got a nice little surprise this afternoon that the band is embarking on a late fall tour of the U.S.! Secondhand Sunday: Matt Pond PA “Locate the Pieces”

Matt Pond PA is undoubtably my favorite band to listen to in the Fall. There is something about their music that just goes perfect with every autumn day. The colors of the leaves, the chill in the air, the overcast sky…they go so well with the music. Pond has one of the greatest voices in indie rock. A little bit scruffy, a little bit smooth, a lot of brillance. For today’s Secondhand Sunday we share with you Matt Pond PA’s “Locate the Pieces.” Enjoy this lovely Fall afternoon!

Bryan Scary & the Shredding Tears Preps “Mad Valentines EP”

Bryan Scary & the Shreding Tears are quickly becoming one of our favorite bands at Modern Mystery. Scary and Co. are set to release their new EP, Mad Valentines (Simian/Old Flame) on October 27th and eager fans are at the edge of their seat. The first single “Andromeda’s Eyes” is flawlessly with amazing harmonies, guitar riffs and a dab of psychadelica. The band seems like they could be the  love child of early Of Montreal twee pop and indie Godfathers, Sloan. Both flattering comparisions. Bryan Scary & The Shredding Tears are certainly a band to watch out for in the coming months.
