Ryan Adams ‘Halloweenhead’ Live

There are two things I am especially excited about in Ryan Adamsville. The first being his returnto  writing The Cardinals blog (Thank God) and the second being his all acoustic version he recently posted on there of ‘Halloweenhead.’ This is a big deal. Ryan didn’t even play the song at the Halloween show at the Apollo. Why? Because he said he simply just doesn’t remember how to play it. Well, apparently he learned it again and its so good its insane.

Watch Ryan play ‘Halloweenhead’…from his apartment.

Antiqcool is the New Cool

I have decided that Antiqcool is the new cool. That sounds like quite a play on words, doesn’t it? Antiqcool is a band from the U.K. that is likely to be a buzz band over here in the States in 2009. There is something very beautiful about their music that reminds me of  a mixture of Elliot Smith with a touch of The Beach Boys. I’m not sure if a combination can get any better than that.

Antiqcool has recently released their newest record ‘Digging for Gold’ which is undoubtably a masterpiece. One of my favorite tracks off the record is titled ‘Already Late’. It just sends chills down my spine.

The Delorentos

I’ve been handed some great albums and mp3s lately. Alot of them have been totally blowing me away, especially this one band.  Folks I would like to introduce you to Dublin’s own, The Delorentos.

The band has a sound that would put most other bands to shame. They seem to blend a bit of The Strokes with a bit of We Are Scientists vibe and a dash of Arcade Fire. Are you curious yet? Well you should be. I can’t stop listening to them yet. The Delorentos have toured with such great bands like The Futureheads, Gang of Four and Tapes n Tapes (wow!) and recently released their first full length titled ‘In Love With Detail’.  This is one band to keep an eye on.

Taking Back Sunday ’12 Days of Christmas’

Why do I have a feeling that most people reading this are scratching their heads wondering how Taking Back Sunday is making an appearance in Modern Mystery. Well, I have come across something great just in time for the holidays. Like them or not, Taking Back Sunday put a hillarious twist on the ’12 Days of Christmas’.  A couple of years ago they put out an animated and totally amusing video for the song that I just can’t stop laughing at. I’m not going to lie, but Taking Back Sunday is kind of my one and only guilty pleasure so to speak. My friends think its kind of awkward. Hell, so do I. Enjoy.

The Raveonettes ‘Come on Santa’

One of my favorite things in the world is when the Danish duo The Raveonettes perform Christmas songs. Yea, I can’t really explain it either, but they put a haunting touch on every holiday song they perform and somehow it comes off perfect. The band has been releasing a series of digital EPs this year, and that has all come to a close with their Christmas EP called ‘Wishing You a Rave Christmas.’ One of the standout tracks is ‘Come on Santa’, which is ever so catchy. Even though The Raveonettes are probably the last band you would expect to make enjoyable holiday tunes, it always sounds so warm when they sing them
